Does Zyban (wellbutrin) only work once?

Zyban is most successful when combined with the patch or gum. I personally never recommend smoking inhalers to anyone who smokes, because the idea is that you break all the habits associated with the nicotine intake. This takes several weeks. Trouble is, when smoker has a small degree of success, they tend to rush the entire process. After that time, you start weaning off the nicotine. It's worth working with your doctor or a smoking cessation specialist to find out how much nicotine substitute and Zyban you need. Don't forget it takes 3 weeks for the Zyban to be at the most effective levels in the blood stream. If you did a class before, I bet you spent about 3 weeks preparing to stop before reaching your actual quit date. Good luck! Answered by Kisha Ortolf 4 months ago.
Zyban didn't work for me the first time, but then nothing has worked for me in the long run. I have tried the patch, hypnosis, Zyban, eating hard candy till my teeth hurt. The longest I have quit smoking was 6 months. If I find something that works for me, I'll be sure to let you know. Good luck to you. Answered by Zaida Gillikin 4 months ago.
Zyban is simply an antidepressant like so many others that help your moods/chemical imbalances, therefore helping with coping with cravings. Most importantly, have you made up your mind completely that you want to quit? If there is any doubt, that alone will keep any drug from helping you stop. Answered by Iliana Gream 4 months ago.
Has anyone been taking zyban to help quit smoking? if so ..how long have you been on this med before quitting?

Zyban is an older medication to quit smoking. It is commonly prescribed as "wellbutrin" and antidepressant that will work to interrupt the smoking stimulator's in the brain. If it is prescribed as Wellbutrin most insurances companies will pay for it but will not pay for Zyban. Its affectiveness varies along with the desire to quit. A better medication Chantix is now available but most insurance companies won't pay for it. It costs about $100 a month. Chantix also helps interrupt the smoking signal in your brain. You take a 3 month course. You smoke normally for the first week while it has time to build up in your system. After that you quit. For me after the first week I would get so nauseated I would not want to smoke again. That is common with most people. The quit % is somewhere in the 50% range but that also varies because of your desire to smoke. Before you quit you have to want to quit! Good luck! Answered by Tomas Lippert 4 months ago.

Zyban added to Zoloft and Torridal is this normal? I had a migraine on monday the doctor offered Percoset I said no thank you lets try the Toridol ( high dosage of ibuprofen) I also got a perscription for the zoloft ( to treat bi polar) the next day I also got ( from the SAME doctor) zyban to quit smoking ( which will help with the migraines. I took the torridal the night before took the zoloft in the morning and the zyban in the afternoon.....I was so fulll of nervous energy I couldn't sit still. Is this a normal reaction should I be concerned or just wait it out. Answered by Tonie Fiwck 4 months ago.
Zyban and Zoloft are normal in combination. Zoloft works through serotonin and Zyban works through dopamine so they actually work pretty well together. Zyban can actually help avoid some of the side effects of Zoloft. Toradol is only indicated for short term use and you shouldn't use it very often. You might be feeling weird because you started both Zoloft and Zyban at the same time and it can take a little while for your body to adjust but that should pass. If it doesn't go away or it gets worse, call the doctor. Answered by Lelia Dolese 4 months ago.

I used Chantix to quit this time. I did gain weight, but at the same time, I ate everything in sight! I have since lost the weight because I realized that I substituted the smoking addiction for a food addiction! This is what usually happens when people quit smoking. I have used Zyban/Wellbutrin before and it didn't help me quit smoking and it gave me terrible headaches. I recommended learning more about Chantix. I know of 15 people who have used it and quit successfully! I also know of 3 who have used it and didn't quit, so it's really about the individual. Just remember to keep taking it for the 3-6 months recommended even if you think you don't need it (that is if you decide to try this instead)!! I have tried several quit smoking products over the years and am very thankful for CHANTIX!! It is the best!!! Answered by Dee Kercy 4 months ago.

Zyban is EXACTLY the same chemical as Wellbutrin. Take that into consideration before you use it. Everyone I've ever talked to said it did work well, but they did have to deal with the side effects of a medication that was designed for depression. If you don't need an SSRI, it can give you anxiety (worse than a nicotene fit), make you depressed and possibly even suicidal and withdrawl off of that chemical can make you really sick. Be careful. Good luck with whatever you choose to do. Answered by Eldora Spanski 4 months ago.
Depends on your make up. It did not work for me but it did help with mood swings. I stopped with cigarest, vitamin ,gum and tablets. It really curbed the urge. I have also tried patches which gave me nightmares and even when I was awake thought I was still in the dream. Didn't like that at ALL! Cigarest you control your cravings with the gum and tablet. The vitamin is an herb that makes cigarettes taste bad and weird If you smoke lets say in your coat it will make you sick by the smell of it. Cost 100 bucks or you can try the net and get first set of everything for I think it was 16 dollars. Well worth it. Do it for a month and see cancel order or send back your money is your again to try something different. Good Luck!! Answered by Vernon Hinckson 4 months ago.
I quit 5 years ago and I really thought Wellbutrin helped me a lot. I also bought ever other smoking aid there was at that time. I didn't use the nicorette gum, I tried the patches for a couple of weeks, I did chew a lot of gum and I sucked on a lot of hard candy. Answered by Elke Gerchak 4 months ago.

you know zyban is basically wellbutrin(anti-depressant) just marketed under a different name..if you have just started treatment with zyban then its a bit normal for you to eat a little more than normally..give it some time and you should notice that you wont be eating so much at all..this same medication (zyban aka wellbutrin) is also used to treat many eating disorders so as a nurse that prescribes this alot just wait it out a bit and it will get better...just try and concentrate and go for a walk or read...if anything get some sugar free/fat free snacks that wont effect your calorie intake so much..but try just getting out of the house or working out to get your mind off of eating..good luck! I took Zyban (to quit smoking) for awhile and did not have those side effects I was however very emotional and very sad. and my cousin was on it for depression and tried to commit suicide. I've never heard of those side effects but I'm sure there could be other emotional side effects. Drugs effect people differently so if you think this may be a side effects talk to your doctor and ask him to try something else. ***Edit*** don't stop taking it on your own. contact your doctor ASAP. if you can't get a hold of your doctor and you are not able to cope tonight call go to the ER a doctor there will help you. You must speak to the MD. who prescribed the med. now as an emergency!!!...or call local ER or 911. Some side effects that need emergency medical attention are: hallucinations, nervousness, seeing, hearing or feeling things that are not there, unconsciousness, convulsions (seizures), fast heartbeat, restlessness. zyban (also known as wellburtin SR) takes awhile to work. its a moderate serotonin re-uptake-inhibitor a bit like a mild prozac used for anti-depression however studies show that it also helps with craving ciggys :P it doesnt for everyone. i have taken it with no useful effect at all and it also gave me hives :S but i have friends who swear its very helpful so... keep taking it for a few weeks. it wont work right away - i think the average is about 2.5 weeks to get results. good luck friend (as i light a ciggy) Answered by Ashton Kimrey 4 months ago.
I was a big time smoker, like a pack a day for 15 years. I was tempted to try Zyban or Wellbutrin, but they take time to get into your system and have side affect so I decided to try the patch. It lasted for 3 days, I was miserable and still wanted a cig. So I went and bought the Nicorette Gum. I was always skeptical of using gum to quit. But I still tried it anyway. It worked. Anytime, and I mean anytime, I wanted a cigarette I grabbed a piece of the gum. I even put some in my car and by the phone.... my usual smoking triggers. It really helped me quit. I never thought anything would help me. Although the gum helped me and Zyban may hel you. I think the key to quitting is WILLPOWER. You can't find it in in a pill or gum. They are there to help you reach your goal. Just remember once you quit, QUIT. No cheating. One cigarette will lead to another. You'll be so proud of yourself once you make it there!Good luck.
