Klonopin, Ativan, Wellbutrin XL?
I forgot to mention I am alson on 500 mgs of Depakote as well in replacement of the Neurontin I was prescribed. Asked by Antoinette Himmelright 1 month ago.

I have been diagnosed with Adult ADD, Chronic Anxiety Disorder and I'm borderline Bipolar. I first started taking 450 MGs of Wellburtrin XL, 300 MGs of Neurontin and 1 mg of Klonopin. The Wellbutrin made me lose about 20 lbs in the first month so he lowered the dose to 300 mgs a day and then switched me from Klonopin to Ativan....can someone tell me what the switch was for and how that will affect me? I'm so new to this all. Answered by Corie Raiche 1 month ago.

Wellbutrin has some stimulant-like properties to it, although the XL (extended release) is supposed to ameliorate some of that. Ativan is a benzodiazepine tranquilizer, used in the treatment of anxiety. I think Klonopin is, too, but I'm not sure. So your doctor may have been wanting to settle down some of the stimulant actions the Wellbutrin may have been having on you. That's just a guess. You need to ask your doctor for any further information if you expect the information to be useful. Treatment of mental disorders with psychiatric medications is a terribly individualized thing. Even when many of these drugs prove helpful, doctors and scientists still aren't sure why, as opposed to the far more thoroughly and generally applicable understanding of, say, the action of an antibiotic. @ Groundskeeper Willy. I said Wellbutrin had "stimulant-like" properties, not that it was a stimulant. I was told that by the psychiatrist who prescribed it for me over 8 years ago and I've been taking it everyday since. I think you may be confusing "stimulant" with "amphetamine." Even caffeine is a stimulant. But amphetamines, and drugs similar to them, which Wellbutrin is not, are a very specific and highly powerful group of central nervous system stimulants with a very high addiction and abuse potential, but which are also sometimes seen in the treatment of ADD. Wellbutrin, however, is in the antidepressant family of drugs. I did not know it was being used in the treatment of ADD, but given that it does not have the addiction/abuse potential of the amphetamine family it is certainly understandable that doctors would prefer it if it should prove an effective treatment, which apparently it has. Answered by Felton Lagasse 1 month ago.

Klonopin and Ativan are the same type of drug really - a benzodiazepine. They both increase the GABA neurotransmitter in the brain which causes drowsiness, anxiety relief, and muscle relaxation. They just have different chemical structures and perhaps different half-lives. Wellbutrin is a dopamine reuptake inhibitor, and usually any drug that increases dopamine will cause weight loss. For example, amphetamine is also a drug that temporarily increases dopamine, but also causes severe appetite suppression. I guess your doctor decided to treat your ADHD with Wellbutrin instead of the more commonly prescribed Adderall or Ritalin, which are amphetamines. I guess that was probably to prevent possible addiction or misuse. Answered by Mark Clear 1 month ago.

the klonopin and ativan are in the same family of medications, they have differing uses in types of anxiety, your psychiatrist probably determined the klonopin was effective in the way they wanted, and opted to switch to a slightly different compound. Contrary to the post above Welbutrin XL is generally used in treatment of depression, It is a NON-Stimulant treatment for ADD. it has been shown effective in Adult ADD/ADHD. Welbutrin is used where stimulant ADD medications are contraindicated. the Neurontin it likely used a mood stabilizer to limit the bipolar mood swings. It is generally used for other afflictions such as seizure disorders, but a psychiatrist may see it beneficial for bipolar mood stabilization. The effect you will notice should be a reduction in anxiety, perhaps a bit of lethargy in the transition. Answered by Haywood Mondale 1 month ago.

Tell me everything you know about Wellbutrin xl
My Dr just put me on wellbutrin xl, I don't have depression, it is more for low chemical levels. He thinks it might help. But regardless of why I want to know everything I can about this before I start taking it. Side effects Positive effects Cost with insurance Personal experiences Asked by Jerold Abbenante 1 month ago.

When I was on Wellbutrin it gave me more energy than I wanted. I mean, for example, I would skip from my car into stores and things like that. However, I am Bipolar so it really kicked up my manic episodes to a kind of out of control level. Too much talking, feeling nervous, hard falling to sleep-all the typical Bipolar manic symptoms. The part I liked most about it was the weight control/loss. Wellbutrin is sort of a cousin to a well known but rarely prescribed weight loss drug called Tenuate. It really works. I had extra energy and a small appetite. I looked and felt great. I had an overall great experience with Wellbutrin and in fact I'm going to request getting back on a very low dose to help me have some energy and lose weight in addition to helping me feel a little happier. I was on the max dose which I think is around 400 mgs a day. I'm going to request a nice low dose. I recently was put on Seroquel for severe sleep problems-not sleeping for weeks at a time which is a typical, dangerous part of being Bipolar. But the Seraquel packed on the pounds really fast. I gained about 15+ pounds in less than 6 weeks. It was like "Super Size Me"! That's my experience. I would have to say over all a positive experience. It's just that I've been treated for Depression and OCD, PTSD, Panic disorder with Agoraphobia and other Disorders for so many years I tend to top out on the max dosage and the medication is no longer effective. So, I had to change over to something else. Right now it's Zoloft as my main anti-depressant. Plus 4 other medications for multi symptom relief and balance. Just start at a low dose and work up slowly if you need to do so. It all really depends on what all of your symptoms are and reactions to certain medications can be different for every indiviual. Of course, go over everything that concerns you with your Doctor. Be careful and report anything you feel is unusual for you right away. Also, calling a Pharmacist can really be helpful. And always think "Safety First". Wellbutrin is a strong drug and if you feel strange in any way that scares you go to the ER right away. Make sure a friend or family member knows you are trying something new so they can tell you if they notice anything you might not be able to see for yourself. I don't know about individual insurance plans but I would imagine if your doctor feels this drug is right for you, your Insurance should have you covered. If they won't, ask your doctor what to do. Make yourself a pest to your Insurance agency. I wish you the very, very best. All of my information is from my own experience. It's always best to talk with a Doc or a Pharmacist when in doubt. About Wellbutrin Answered by Collen Paladino 1 month ago.

I hated it. HATED IT!!!! Wellbutrin (also known as Zyban, when used as a smoking cessation aid) is a central nervous system stimulant. That is, not an anti-depressant. It doesn't work on serotonin, dopamine, or other neurotransmitters directly. If you like smoking, caffeine, strong stimulants (like, say, cocaine...) then you'd probably like Wellbutrin. Personally, it made me crazy-sick and yes, I got super-paranoid and anxious and somewhat suicidal when my doc upped my dosage. It was bad sh!t. I mean, if it helps, whatever, but I hated it and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who has problems with stimulants or anxiety. Answered by Rosina Stoakley 1 month ago.

I used to take Welbutrin xl for depression. I don't know how much it costs, but with my insurance, it was like $15.00. It made me feel better, I guess but the greatest thing is that you also lose weight. It's one of the side affects because when you're taking it, it's like you just forget to eat. A bad thing about it though is that I always hadd this bad taste in my mouth. They also prescribe it to smokers to make them quit. I smoke, and everytime I smoked, it made the cigarette taste so bad. But other than that, it's not that bad. Answered by Francis Brutus 1 month ago.

My insurance did'nt pay for it. I didn't like it either anyway. It was given to me to stop smoking. For me, it made me feel like a zombie, gave me dry mouth and sort of shaky. I understand it takes 3-6 weeks before the full effect. I could not handle it. But everyone its different. Answered by Chris Ladesma 1 month ago.

Wellbutrin XL is reputed to be one of the extremely few antidepressants with little or no sexual side effects. It's not very well understood (even less than most other antidepressants). It does seem to target a somewhat different part of brain chemistry compared with Zoloft and similar. Wellbutrin can be a bit "activating" which may translate into a tiny bit of nervousness or agitation. However, the XL form is quite an improvement over the original form of the medication and by being released into the system much more slowly and steadily (rather than in big bursts) the effect is much smoother. I'd say most patients don't have much to worry about. The only patients, in theory, who should be much more cautious with Wellbutrin (XL or any other version) are those who have seizure disorders as it appears this medication is a bit more prone to facilitate seizures than many other antidepressants. But at the doses at which it is commonly used, this should not be a significant risk at all. In common with many other antidepressants, when Wellbutrin (any version ) works well, it can work quite beautifully. Answered by Gwendolyn Amick 1 month ago.

I have beforehand been at the steady Wellbutrin without a issues what so ever. Then I stopped taking after many months given that I did not want it. However as a result of being laid off, strain and stressful continually I had to get again on anything. Due to a loss of activity and cash this time round I obtained the established kind of it. I have taken it up to now eight days. And the day before today I broke out with like welts in all places that itched. Plus my lip swelled up approximately three occasions it is average measurement. I began taken benadryl given that I did not recognise what brought about it and figured it used to be an hypersensitive reaction to anything. Last night time I used to be additionally tremendously stressed and might now not sleep. I awoke in these days with extra welts in one of a kind locations and really itchy fingers and fingers. My fingers at the moment are swollen and the itching is not going to give up it doesn't matter what I do. So I did not take it in these days and am calling my doctro immediately day after today. So to make a protracted tale brief I definately see a change among the established and steady company. Hope that offers you a few perception. Answered by Terra Berni 1 month ago.

I was put on wellbutrin to quit smoking and it worked great for that... however, the side effects were insane! One day I was manic and felt like I was on speed all day. The next day I couldn't get ut of bed because I was hallucinating terribel things happening. Then I was unbalanced and could not get my grounding. I felt confused, neurotic, and a bit like I was going out of my mind. I knew all of these things were mild side effects, but the day before I quit taking it, my throat closed up and my swallowing mechanism STOPPED WORKING! You know how people that can't speak use the voice thing on theor necks and push it into their throats? For me to swallow, I had to push on my throat! Every time! Try sleeping and eating and drinking when you can't swallow! UGH! I called my doc that night and she had no idea why this would happen. The next day I researched the less common side effects and sure enough, difficulty swallowing and closing of the throat is listed. It seemed like I got all the side effects possible from it. Moral of the story is everyoe is different. But if you can't swallow, and feel like a lunatic, it may be the wellbutrin. Good luck! Answered by Sandy Nauss 1 month ago.

i was on wellbutrinXL doing very well for two years. Then fell two times and had very bad head injury and then seisure. Th DR took me off Wellbutrin for fear of side effects. I was doing good on wellbutrinXL. Staying "in the mood" all the time. Not now Answered by Bethany Shindel 1 month ago.

The wellbutrin will give you more energy. It is an antidepressant, but also is a mild stimulant. Some people notice that the brand name of wellbutrin works better than the generic. I've seen a lot of postings on this, but I personally haven't noticed a difference. Wellbutrin will also increase your sex drive a bit. I like taking a combination of lexapro and wellbutrin at the same time. Lexapro is a better antidepressant, but zaps your energy and your sex drive. Wellbutrin gives you back that energy. When combining, I take a lower dose of wellbutrin, just enough to give me energy. This usually keeps off any weight gain caused by lexapro. I think you will be sucessful. Good luck and go for walks everyday. Answered by Alethia Powells 1 month ago.

lexapro can commonly cause wieght gain, due to its zombifying effects. lexapro raises serotonin, which in turn lowers motivation. wellbutrin works by raising levels of norepinephrine and dopamine.....just like many other effective weight loss drugs. i would highly recommend wellbutrin, it also decreased my appetite. it was a very good antidepressant, i had increased interest and motivation, less appetite, and alot more energy. negative side effects of wellbutrin were mild anxiety (but im anxious by default, so this doesnt count) increased libido (not necessarily bad) if you just stopped the lexapro, you may have some withdrawal effects, such as nausea, anxiety, and rapid mood swings. these should go away in a couple days to a week...... Answered by Ute Turiano 1 month ago.

I'm on 10mg of Lexapro and it hasn't made me crazy or start choking people (at least those that didn't rightly deserve it :) My boyfriend's mom went on wellburtrin a while back and she said she couldn't take it anymore because it literally did make her crazy, she was turning into mega-***** and had to stop. This is really something you need to speak with your Dr about, I'm assuming (hopefully) that you were on lexapro for GAD or anxiety and that he switched you because wellburtin is an antidepressant too with a side effect of an appetite suppressant. Otherwise, I'm not sure what good it would do. Answered by Andres Feliberty 1 month ago.

taking that to lose weight is wrong on so many levels! I can't believe your doctor would say that and actually prescribe that to you for that purpose. You realize that you are permanently messing with your brain chemistry?! Wellbutrin and weight gan?
Anyone take Wellbutrin XL and have an issue with gaining weight? Asked by Mariah Akhand 1 month ago.

Wellbutrin XL is the antidepressant that least affects weight. One side effect is actually a decrease in appetite. Google: mayo clinic>>drugs>>wellbutrin XL It's a good medication. Good luck Answered by Arianne Luckow 1 month ago.

I take Wellbutrin SR (150 mg) in the morning, and Lexapro (10 mg) in the evening, for depression and anxiety. I've been taking that for over two years, and it's working very well for me. The Wellbutrin SR seems to help me to be more alert and active - and wanting to do things - while the Lexapro makes me more mellow, and it helps me sleep better, too. They are relatively low doses of each medication, which keeps side effects at a minimum. I really can't tell I'm taking any medication at all. The last time I was in the doctor office, I had lost 8 lbs - not a lot, but in the right direction. I give the Wellbutrin SR the credit for the weight loss, since it does help me to be more active. Answered by Angela Huser 1 month ago.

Wellbutrin is an antidepressant and nearly all of that type of drug can cause weight gain. I can't say that changing drugs will help either. I had the issue with Zoloft and my husband has the same issue with Lexapro. It just makes it harder to lose weight but it still can be done. Answered by Kit Addo 1 month ago.

I took wellbutrin daily for 2 months, During this time I smoked alot of herb as well. When I first started taking the wellbutrin smoking weed was actually good for the first 3 days. It made the weed buzz more rushy and I only needed a little bit of pot to get super stoned. My heart would pound and I'd almost sweat. After a week on the wellbutrin I started getting these extreme anxiety attacks from smoking while on the WB. This lead to paranoia and worse anxiety attacks. I went to the doctor and he raised my dosage again. I then went into a extreme attack that very day while skoking up and was hospitalized. I got off the wellbutrin needless to say. It took me a week or 2 before I could start smoking herb again. Wellbutrin left me full of anxiety and I dont reccomend it at all. I am now on ritalin and it doesnt give me anxiety attacks half as bad as WB did and I still smoke everyday. Answered by John Rohrbach 1 month ago.

I began taken benadryl when you consider that I did not realize what prompted it and figured it used to be an hypersensitivity to whatever. Last night time I used to be additionally incredibly stressed and would now not sleep. I awoke in these days with extra welts in one-of-a-kind locations and really itchy arms and fingers. My arms at the moment are swollen and the itching won't quit it doesn't matter what I do. So I did not take it in these days and am calling my doctro immediately the next day. I am curious as to how Bupropion (Wellbutrin) might affect someone with Bipolar II Disorder. I've read that it can cause a manic episode in Bipolar I patients, so I assume the same would be true with the hypomanic episodes in Bipolar II sufferers. My biggest question is approximately how long a manic/hypomanic episode might occur after taking 150mg of Bupropion XL daily? I ask this because I was prescribed Lithium and Sertraline about a year ago, but stopped taking them before I could see any effects. I'm 17 f 5'4" 105 lbs. very small "frail" frame. I hadn't taken any medication for about a year and a half up until about a month ago. Prescribed clonazepam (klonopin) 0.5 mg twice a day. I was taking 10 mg of citalopram (celexa) daily for about a month, but it made me bruise all over. I just took my first dose of the Bupropion (150 mg xl) today, but seeing as Bipolar Disorder has been discussed in the past as a diagnosis, I became curious. I guess if nothing else this will be a determining factor in my diagnosis! (Which there never seems to be a definite one.) Sorry for the lengthy question, just wanted to give all the details and see what good advice I might find. Thank you! Answered by Darci Yuk 1 month ago.

Supposedly Wellbutrin is the least likely of the anti depressants to cause problems but it was not so with me.. I took it for years before I knew I was Bipolar and it would make me feel so much better after just a couple of weeks I would quit taking it (made me hypomanic).. then I would get depressed again a couple months later and take it again for a couple of weeks. After years of this I decided to just stay on it and after 2 months I was completely manic, over the top, spending my 401k, quitting my job, having sex with men I just met online....... But by god I was having the time of my life.... then things went really over the top and I became psychotic..... Rough way to find out you are Bipolar.... it took 4 years to recover full from that and still i am not quite like I was before... they say that every manic episode takes something from you that you never get back.... But partially my fault because at one point I stopped all my meds and stopped seeing my doctors... got depressed and started using an old bottle of Wellbutrin..... had a lovely mixed episode where all I could think about was self mutilation (not like cutting but like cutting off my arms or sticking my hands in the garbage disposal) and ended up on a ward. My advice.. go ahead and try it.. it does not do to everyone what it does to me (but for me the reaction is so swift and so severe that I can not take anti depressants of any kind).. some people take it just fine. Become familiar with the signs of mania and watch for them.... report anything out of the ordinary to your doctor immediately. If the Celexa didn't make you manic then the Wellbutrin probably won't either. Answered by Cleo Bardsley 1 month ago.

I've been on it about 2 weeks now. Switched from Lexapro to Wellbutrin and over the last week or so I've been getting dizzy, lightheaded to the point of feeling like I'm going to pass out, mild headaches, and am not sleeping for anything! Has this happened to anyone else?? What did you do?? I'm going to talk to my Dr tomorrow and skipped my dose today as I was feeling like such crap yesterday and was hoping it would go away, but I'm starting to feel lightheaded and such again...... any ideas? Answered by Josefine Broder 1 month ago.

I started Wellbutrin XL a week ago and have been having side effects on and off. One day I feel great, the next day I feel lousy (both physically and emotionally). However, overall the side effects have been diminishing and my mood has improved slightly (though this could still be the placebo effect). As many others have commented, every medication affects people differently. One important thing to remember is that Wellbutrin is an atypical anti-depressant, as it works on ONLY norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake. Many people in Yahoo answers have given differing responses as to the mechanisms for Wellbutrin. Lexapro is an SSRI and works primarily on seratonin. This is an educated guess, but most likely your symptoms are a result of your withdrawal from the Lexapro rather than your new Wellbutrin regimen. SSRI's (Lexapro, Celexa, etc) tend to have relatively severe withdrawal symptoms in a great number of individuals. Nonetheless, Wellbutrin has also been known to cause many of the symptoms you've described, so that's probably an added factor. My advice is to stick out the Wellbutrin. It is NOT advisable to skip doses of anti-depressants. If after another two weeks you continue to have unbearable side-effects, you should then consult your doctor about trying a new medication. As always, the advice of your doctor should be followed first and foremost. However, I will say that many general practitioners are NOT aware of much of the literature published on these drugs. Doing your own research on these medications is highly advisable. Answered by Irina Rigerman 1 month ago.

Stay clear of Wellbutrin! Wellbutrin is harmful in itself however is even worse while combined with prozac. I used to be on 80mg of prozac after which given 150mg of Wellbutrin. The 5th day of being on Wellbutrin I had a Grand Mal Seizure. My health practitioner advised me that taking the 2 in combination can shrink your seizure threshold. I used to be then informed to consume extra to counter act this with electrolytes. Not however 2 days later I had a further Grand Mal Seizure that lasted four minutes. I used to be taken to the ER had a head CT and the whole thing to make certain I did not have a tumor they usually concluded it used to be the blend of the 2 medicinal drugs that prompted my seizure (shock). I used to be informed via the health practitioner within the ER to certainly not take Wellbutrin once more considering that with my prozac it multiplied the toxicity of the 2 medicinal drugs inflicting very extreme seizures. They even advised me that it used to be well that I had this response early on while taking this med considering that there were circumstances wherein longer term customers expand epilepsy even after they're taken off the drug. I am off the Wellbutrin for per week now and have not had a seizure for the reason that however the medical professionals advised me that that's no warranty that I have not constructed epilepsy and that my subsequent seizure might be days, weeks, or months from now even after being taken off the drug. I've been on it for at least 2 years now with no ill side effects, but if you are having them definately get your dr to try something else. I had headaches & dizziness with some I tried before this. Answered by Joe Huebert 1 month ago.

Good idea to see your dr. You should not stop antidepressents on your own. If you have been taking them for a long time you must ween off. Usually if you have side effects they will go away in a couple of weeks. If they continue you need to change meds as prescribed by your dr. Not taking them one day will not get rid of symptoms. It takes several days to get out of your system. Listen to your dr. Good luck. Answered by Yessenia Mucciolo 1 month ago.

What is the difference between wellbutrin xl and wellbutrin sustained release?
Asked by Divina Wagar 1 month ago.

WELLBUTRIN XL contains the same active ingredient as WELLBUTRIN SR, but WELLBUTRIN XL is formulated in an extended-release, once-daily tablet. The usual adult target dose for WELLBUTRIN SR Tablets is 300 mg/day, given as 150 mg twice daily. Dosing with WELLBUTRIN SR Tablets should begin at 150 mg/day given as a single daily dose in the morning. If the 150-mg initial dose is adequately tolerated, an increase to the 300-mg/day target dose, given as 150 mg twice daily, may be made as early as day 4 of dosing. There should be an interval of at least 8 hours between successive doses. The usual adult target dose for WELLBUTRIN XL Tablets is 300 mg/day, given once daily in the morning. Dosing with WELLBUTRIN XL Tablets should begin at 150 mg/day given as a single daily dose in the morning. If the 150-mg initial dose is adequately tolerated, an increase to the 300-mg/day target dose, given as once daily, may be made as early as day 4 of dosing. There should be an interval of at least 24 hours between successive doses. Basically, the XR is a once daily and the dosage is released in two phases, 150mg early on, and 150mg later in the day. Otherwise taking two SR 150mg pills, one two times a day would do the same thing. Less pills, one thing less to worry about. Although, as a person who takes Adderall XR, the stimulant affects of these types of drugs - extended release, Wellbutrin XL, Adderall XR, etc. - is that you may have trouble sleeping and it does occasionally make your heart race. (If I hadn't taken my Adderall XR this morning before my exam then I would be able to sleep right now, but thats the stimulant for you.... Not too fun!) Hope that helps! Take care. Does alcohol make wellbutrin XL stop working?
Because the first two days of taking wellbutrin i felt amazing, after that I had some vodka on the third night and the next day the medicine seems to have stopped working and hasn't started working since. Asked by Elois Werts 1 month ago.

Wellbutrin does have a history of being picky and randomly stopping working, but I've never heard of alcohol being the catalyst for that. If you haven't already I would continue taking it for a few days to see if it starts working again; alcohol and other things can unbalance your levels and it can take a few days to get back to where you need to be. If you've tried that already, or if it just isn't working you need to see your doctor as soon as possible. One thing to keep in mind though, several antidepressants (including wellbutrin) often have a euphoric phase where everything feels great, you have tons of energy, etc, but that is just your body adjusting to the meds as you titrate up to your full dosage. Once you're up to your recommended dosage that sometimes extreme euphoria will wear off and you'll feel more level and 'normal'. I don't know if that applies to you, but I did want to mention it (it was a bit of knowledge I didn't have when I started taking Wellbutrin). A great source I've found for unofficial but objective information is CrazyMeds.com Answered by Porsha Granai 1 month ago.
