Solodyn is basically an extended release minocycline antibiotic. It's usually used to treat acne or other skin conditions. The makers of Solodyn are truly greedy bastards. Solodyn is one of the most expensive antibiotics on the market. They basically package minocycline (which costs pennies) into an extended-release capsule, so you only have to take it once a day. For this privilege, you pay hundreds of dollars more than the regular release capsule, which you have to take three or four times a day. If it's really worth several hundred dollars to you to take a capsule once a day instead of three or four times, go ahead and get it. Otherwise, have the doctor change the rx to instant release minocycline. I don't think doctors really know how much Solodyn costs. They get visited by drug company reps that tout the convenience of their product, but without mentioning the outlandish cost. Regular release minocycline costs far less and is just as good. 1000 dollers a bottle????!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS?! The doc gave me a 50 buck coupen. That aint gonna work )':

Solodyn is a fancy minocycline. It is safe. There are a lot of side effects listed in the packaging but the packaging has to list every single possible side effect. At worst you will probably only get one or two. My suggestion would be to take regular minocycline instead of Solodyn. Regular minocycline is cheap while the Solodyn costs over a thousand dollar per bottle and it really isn't any better. It is just a cheap trick by the drug company to get people to buy expensive drugs for no reason. Unfortunately, dermatologists will fall for anything. Stupid, overly expensive products like Solodyn are why health care costs are so high. Sorry for the rant. That product just really bugs me. It is safe (but still expensive). I've been taking solodyn for about 4 months now. Luckily, I haven't really had any side effects to it. I'm taking 45mg. I'm really happy with it. For the first time in years, I haven't had one breakout. If it's working for you, maybe you can try lowering the dosage. I think the normal dosage is 90mg, but my dermatologist started me on the lowest available. Answered by Lino Taplin 1 month ago.

Does solodyn work for acne?
I just went to the dermatologist and she prescribed me solodyn to take in the morning. I have oily skin and somewhere a bit below or rught around mild acne. If solodyn does work how long will it take to see results? Thanks
Asked by Daphine Cashmore 1 month ago.
Solodyn is the expenisve brand name of that drug. The only difference between that and the cheap stuff is you only have to take the solodyn once a day. Yes, it works for acne, it is an antibiotic. I took it for awhile but I was allergic to it... cleared my acne but I had hives and itched all over... i took it for 3 months before I figured out I was allergic to it. Its a treatment that only manages the symptoms. Once you stop taking it the acne comes back. There are some risks with taking antibiotics long-term. You might want to start eating probiotics or yogurt with live cultures to keep your good bacteria in balance while you are on this medication. It starts to clear your skin pretty quickly... give it not even 2 weeks and all you'll have is post-marks and no fresh blemishes. The acne you have on your face now was in your skin 2 weeks before it showed up. So give it 2 weeks to clear your face and then a couple more weeks to be completely clear. Stress is one of the main contributing variables to acne. When you are anxiety, your body generates a whole lot of the anxiety hormone cortisol. This hormone throws off the delicate hormonal balance in your body, major to the imbalances that encourage acne development. By managing your tension, you decrease the chances of acne outbreaks. Has anyone taken Solodyn for Acne?
1. Did it work? 2. Did you get frequent headaches? 3. Did it make you gain weight? Thanks!
Asked by Sharyn Majied 1 month ago.
Solodyn is an excellent form of minocycline for acne therapy. Minocycline, in doses which exceed 100mg twice a day, can often lead to headaches and vertigo. Solodyn is "supposed" to avoid this, by being a time-released product; but even so, if the dosage is high, and you happen to have a small spinal cord foramen, you might still get a headache from it, due to "pseudotumor cerebri". There should be nothing about it which would make you gain weight, however. Answered by Abram Wironen 1 month ago.

Solodyn isaanti-biotic I just had perscribed to me by my doctor to treat acne. However I am a bit concerned about side effects and my doctor gave me a coupon for three free months of this drug which leads me to believe it may be experimental. So if anyone has any information about the side ffects, safety and history of Solodyn that would be very helpful. The official name of Solodyn is MINOCYCLINE HCI, USP and what i have is the extended release tablets Answered by Jarrod Garnet 1 month ago.
Solodyn is just a brand name for minocycline, a drug that has been around since before you were born - nothing experimental about it! Its main use is to treat acne, and it's probably the best drug for it. Side effects include photosensitivity (easy to sunburn), discoloration of teeth if given to small children with growing teeth (not a concern at acne age), and otherwise, nothing to worry about much unless you were to have a rare allergic reaction to the drug or to develop severe diarrhea, also not typical. Historically, minocycline was synthesized to make a better tetracycline. Tetracycline is an antibiotic that also works on acne, but you have to take a lot of pills every day because your body degrades it quickly. Minocycline is an improvement in that it lasts longer in your body, so you don't have to take it so often. Hope that helps - really, this is a very standard, safe antibiotic used by millions for acne and tested for decades. There should be no surprise side effects. Answered by Brent Deprez 1 month ago.

Solodyn is an antibiotic, similar to tetracycline. And it can indeed cause photochemical sensitivity. And as an aside, its safety has not been established when used for over 12 weeks. But the answer to your questions is that if you are on a course of antibiotics, you need to continue for the duration rather than just stopping them because it's inconvenient. Wear loose clothing, and good sun protection, and continue on them. And if you are female, consider looking in other directions for your acne help. And consider checking into taking Zinc instead of the pharmacy stuff. Zinc is very helpful to the body in resisting infection, so I suggest using a multivitamin that has at least the RDA of 15 mg of Zinc, and perhaps two a day at first to bring your level up. Not advocating big-time dosage, just enough to comfortably deal with the acne. Hope that helps answer your question, even though I know the answer wasn't quite what you were wanting to hear. Can you drink alcohol with the acne pill solodyn?

Here's the list of medications that may interact with Solodyn: • birth control pills. SOLODYN™ may make your birth control pills less effective. You should use a second form of birth control while taking SOLODYN™. • a blood thinner medicine. The dose of your blood thinner may be lowered. • a penicillin antibiotic medicine. SOLODYN™ and penicillins should not be used together. • antacids that contain aluminum, calcium, or magnesium or iron-containing products. These can affect how much SOLODYN™ passes into your body. • Isotretinoin products. In addition, Solodyn increases sun sensitivity (Photosensitivity). You may get a worse sunburn with SOLODYN™. Avoid sun exposure & the use of sunlamps or tanning beds. Protect your skin while out in sunlight. To answer your question the company lists no problem with drinking alcohol while taking Solodyn. I would still advise limiting your alcohol use, as it can worsen acne: #1 Most alcohols are made from wheat... (esp. beer etc) For 30% of people, the high gluten content in these products cause inflammatory reactions in the body. Also, yeast, malts, sugars used in many alcoholic beverages have been shown to increase bacteria production in the body when ingested. This can be a major factor in acne flare-ups. #2 Alcohol is a strong diuretic, meaning it pulls water out of your body... With less water, you are unable to remove as many toxins, which both irritate the skin AND your hormonal system, causing unbalanced hormones, and therefore, more acne. Hope this info helps! Taking solodyn and drinking alcohol?
Is it okay to drink alcohol if your taking solodyn?
Asked by Eldridge Nowaczyk 1 month ago.
The most common side effects were headache, tiredness, dizziness, and itching. SOLODYN® contains minocycline. Like other antibiotics based on tetracycline, minocycline can harm an unborn child when taken by a pregnant woman. Tetracycline drugs should not be used when a child’s teeth are forming (during the last half of pregnancy and up to 8 years of age) because they may cause permanent darkening of teeth. Severe irritation and bleeding in the colon (pseudomembranous colitis) have been reported with nearly all antibiotics and may range from mild to life-threatening. Talk to your doctor if you have severe diarrhea. Light-headedness, dizziness, and a spinning feeling have been reported by patients taking minocycline. In rare cases, patients can develop a worse sunburn. Don’t use SOLODYN® if you are pregnant. Men and women who are trying to conceive a child should not take SOLODYN. SOLODYN may make an oral contraceptive less effective. This drug should not be used by anyone who has had allergic reactions to any of the tetracycline drugs. The safety of using SOLODYN® for longer than 12 weeks has not been studied and is not known. I got this from the Solodyn website, and I didn't see anything about alcohol. Hope this helps!
