Why don't they use Silver Sulfadiazine for general Herpes? It works better than any ointment for Herpes?
Warning, do not use Silver Silver Sulfadiazine on your lips or genital area, but its O.K. to use anywhere else on your skin

I have had Herpes for all my life since I was born. I'm unusual in that I get Herpes Simplex on more than just my lips. I get them on specific places of the right side of my face. and on the right side of my neck. I was prescribed an ointment all my life. But in 1998, when I was 19 years of age, I was prescribed Silver Sulfadiazine which is generally prescribed for patients with severe burns. He was a new doctor at the time and the ointment lasted until Yesterday. I got some more with my current doctor. But it works better than any prescription that I was ever prescribed for Herpes. Silver Sulfadiazine works better that any other Herpes topical ointment.
honey if you really want to destroy the herpes virus, just take olive leaf extract and eat or juice raspberries, cranberries & bluberries everyday
you may need to do this for 12 months but its worth it
st johns wort is excellent too as is a liver detox

the worst things to trigger it are chemical products, (bad effect on the liver) parasites from animals or eating pig meat, peanuts,
oranges, chocolate, pasta, canola, margarine, fried foods, alcohol & any dried food or flour product as these can have molds

Sorry about your sunburn! I've been there!
Call any pharmacist. They are so smart and helpful. You can find a 24-hour pharmacist by looking up "Pharmacies" in the Yellow Pages.
Good luck and heal quickly! ;)
Should silver sulfadiazine be used to treat diaper rash?
My son has diaper rash caused by something he eat that did not agree. The doctor called in "silver sulfadiazine" to treat it. I'm not familiar with it and was wondering if anyone else has ever used it? In the past he has always given vusion cream.
Interesting question. One brand name of this medication is Silvadene. I've had to use it twice in the last few months. The first time was for a 2nd degree scald burn that was quite widespread and likely to become infected, the second time was from a chemical burn I got from using Easy Off oven cleaner. I googled "Silvadene" and "diaper rash" and sure enough, there are moms out there who swear by it for diaper rash. I would trust the doc, just watch out for the side effects that the medication will have on it like if it burns your little one, or develops a rash (other than the diaper rash) from it. A burn medication for diaper rash...who knew? Best wishes. :)

How much faster does silver sulfadiazine help burns heal?
My son has 2nd to 3rd degree burns to his foot, and the dr prescribed silver sulfadiazine for it. How much faster does this help the burn heal, and whats the general heal time for 2nd and 3rd degree burns?
The cream is an antibiotic as well as a healing cream so as long as the infection is controlled the burn will heal in a good period. Burns are classed as Superficial, partial thickness or full thickness. Partial and full thickness burns are the worst ones and may take several weeks to heal, it depends how big the burns were and wheather anyone did first aid when they happened. Cold water at the beginning certainly reduces the healing time.
SILVADENE (silver sulfadiazine) stored in a park car for almost an hour! Would you think it's safe to use?
I bought a Silvadiazin cream (generic brand of Silvadene or Silver Sulfadiazine) to be use for my burn hand. But forgot it inside a parked car for almost an hour or so. I've checked the cream's instructions and found that it must be store at a temperature ranging from 15-25 C.

Now my answer is this, is it safe to use this product on my wound eventhough I let it stored on a heated car for more than an hour? Is this kind of drug can be easily damage by an hour of heat?

Please let me know because I am already using the product....

the best person to anser this question is a pharmist..i would call a local one and ask..just to be sence using a product that may not even be effective now
Yes, its fine. We keep bottle in glass blowing shop. Its hotter than your car!
Hand got crushed by hammer, doctor prescribed silver sulfadiazine cream, but finger feels odd. Help?
Dad was working, but accidentally got his finger crushed by a hammer. Doctor then prescribed silver sulfadiazine cream. But after one use, the finger feels the tingly feeling like after your foot falls asleep. What will happen to the finger? It's only the finger nail top part. Will the finger grow back, or what will happen?
im assuming you mean the finger nail grow back and yes. the cream is numbing the nerves in the finger helping your leucocytes work to heal the bruised mussle tissue.

Can you use silver sulfadiazine cream for athletes foot?
Not really. It's a good, general antibiotic cream, but it doesn't work on the fungus that causes athletes foot.
Can I use Silver Sulfadiazine cream on my dogs open sores?
could someone help please?
Kim S
Personally I wouldnt. Why not try a natural cure, I can guarantee you will be surprised at how well it works.
Get some manuka honey and smear it on the wound and then cover it with a piece of cabbage leaf just big enough to cover the wound area. Bandage it into place and change every 24 hours. It will heal better than with any cream which can be potentially irritating to the dog;
I have greyhounds and it has been used on them with great effect more than once and oits a lot cheaper than pills and potions. Theres also the added bonus that they get some to lick to keep them busy while the dressing is being done! lol;
is silver sulfadiazine different from silvadene?
Ive been using the silver sulf stuff for my deep second degree burn, I got it from the er. But the thing is i dont see any type of healing happening for my burn. I posted alot of questions and alot of people have told me that its worked wonders for them. but they refer to it as silvadene. Does it matter which one I use and is that the reason why I havent been healing properly. I've been thinking since its not working to use honey instead.
What do you think
konnie l
Yes it is the generic form. Keep you burn very clean and keep the silvadene on it good and thick. Keep bandage from getting dirty or wet. Follow your hospital instructions. Did they send you to a burn clinic follow up (or a follow up with your family doc)? If not maybe you should schedule an appointment on your own.
Hope this helps!

can you use thermazene on sunburn?

Can I use Silver Sulfadiazine for something other than a burn?
My wife uses a cathether and her right leg is missing a layer of skin.Ayear ago she had a third degree burn on her back and this cream helped the healing.

have you heard of silver sulfadiazine?
My grandma uses it on my grandpa's scrapes and skin tears and it really does a great job of healing the skin. I was wondering if it would work on greasy nasty whiteheads at drying them out to go away.
ahh that sucks. i'm trying to get rid of a huge one in the next few hours, or at least make it go down a little to managable size for covering. any tips for that?
No, it won't work on whiteheads. It's great on open wounds and stops the bleeding.

You know you can have the whiteheads removed, right? I have a problem with them as well. Either the dermatologist does it or I'll have a facial and they take it out. You just have to tell them when you make the appointment. Takes a few seconds longer than a blackhead to remove, but after that they are gone.
Anyone know anything about the medicine called Silver sulfadiazine cream for skin?
I have some bug bites and rash on my skin that is constantly itching. I have some cream for burns, so I was wondering if it helped a burn on the skin, that it may help my rash and bites? Does anyone know? Thanx
Silver sulfadiazine, a sulfa drug, is used to prevent and treat infections of second- and third-degree burns. It kills a wide variety of bacteria.

This medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
Has anyone ever used SSD ointment on cold sores?
I very rarely get cold sores. Every couple of years a few crop up in the corner of my after affect of dental surgery 9 years ago. I have tried a large number of topical treatments over the years to get rid of them, but nothing ever really works well. Someone at work recommended using SSD (1% silver sulfadiazine) cream on the sore. Do you think this will work?

Llysine works can get it as a cream or as a vitamin.. sorry for spelling..
Always on my mind!
I burned the back of my leg (6in by 3in) - is it o.k. to use THERMAZENE-(silver sulfadiazine) cream 1%?

Does Silvadene (Silver Sulfadiazine) cause blistering?
I have an open wound about the size of a dime and my doctor prescribe me Silvadene, The wound itself seems to be getting some better although it still hurts. I noticed after the first night of using the Silvadene that I have a new sore near the wound which now appears to be a blister. After being on the Silvadene for 3 days now, I now have 3 very painful blisters. I ? the doctor and he said it would be okay. I don't agree. Am I having a reaction to the Silvadene? I can't seem to find any side effects on this medicine.. Can someone help me please?!?!?!
According to the British National Formulary 2008, Silver sulphadiazine cream can cause a variety of skin side effects including blistering. Some of the skin side effects are serious.
It also says that silver sulfadiazine should be stopped if there is a local reaction and blood should be examined .If there is a decrease of white blood cells the application should definitely be stopped.

On the other hand why should you bother much when you can easily stop Silver sulphadiazine and use another drug for your sore.
What over the counter creme can I use for bad road rash?Instead of "Thermazene Silver"?

Why do mainstream medicine apologists attack colloidal silver?
Prior to the advent of patentable and more profitable antibiotics, medicines containing silver were the most widely prescribed infection fighters by doctors and there were no fewer than 34 different approved prescription and over the counter medications with silver particles.

Now, after improved and nano-technology, and the elimination of most large particle and silver nitrate products, colloidal silver proponents claim that it is safer and more effective than ever. At the same time, however, it has been the subject of increasing attacks as a scam, quackery and/or dangerous by mainstream medicine and the bloggers and apologists who oppose alternatives to non-approved medicines.

When it is pointed out that colloidal and nano-silver is used by NASA, Potters for Peace, the Hong Kong Subway System, Cure-Aid, and major hospital burn units, the detractors say yes, perhaps it works externally, but when taken internally it causes dangerous toxicity due to silver build-up, causes people to turn blue, and, in a familiar refrain, claim that it has no "scientifically" proven benefits.

Yet, the EPA says that 90-95% of ingested silver particles are eliminated from the body within two days and 99% within a week, and the bluest of the blue people, "Papa Smurf" Paul Karason (who, like the Montana senator, actually took large quantities of home-made silver made with tap water and contaminated with salt for a prolonged period of many months) was given a clean bill of health at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Insofar as scientific studies, last year it was reported that researchers in Hungary found specific silver receptors on human tissue - an indication that silver plays an important role in human health. A joint study between the University of Texas and Mexico University published in the Journal of Nanotechnology which showed that silver nanoparticles of sizes 1-10nm attached to HIV-1 and prevented the virus from bonding to host cells.

A study conducted by the Department of Microbiology at Kyungpook National University in Daegu, Korea, and published in the prestigious Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology, found that nano-silver was comparable in effectiveness to Amphotericin B, one of the most powerful prescription antifungal drugs known to man, which is often used intravenously to cure serious systemic fungal infections, and was found to be superior to the well-known anti-fungal drug fluconazole (popularly known as Diflucan).

And then there is the recently completed study conducted by researchers from the Washington University School of Medicine and the University of Akron, Ohio, and presented at the 105th International Conference of the American Thoracic Society, where researchers infected a group of mice with the bacteria Pseudomona aeroginosa, a common cause of bacterial pneumonia in humans, especially those on ventilators, those with cystic fibrosis or those with compromised immune systems. All the mice which inhaled aerosolized nanoparticles known as silver silver carbene complexes (SCCs), had significantly lower concentrations of bacteria in their lungs than mice inhaling placebo nanoparticles. Most significantly, none of the mice in the SCC group died, while all the mice in the control group did.

Were all those doctors who prescribed silver products and the scientists who conducted the studies liars, scammers and/or quacks? (Must have been the placebo effect, huh?) Meanwhile millions of people around the world are taking it and reporting cures of pneumonia, staph, candida, MRSA, Chrohns, Lyme, flus including the H1N1 flu, and much more.

So, is mainstream medicine and its advocates and agents attacking colloidal silver because it really does not work and is dangerous, or could it be that they simply attack it and anything else that represents a threat to the hundreds of billions in profits from patented drugs? What do you think?

Colloidal silver is extremely dangerous. They used to think it could cure everything, but it actually cures nothing, it might have a placebo effect but it's doing more harm than good. Search google images for the blue man or colloidal silver skin, and you will see that it makes your skin turn greyish then bluey grey. All of the silver is toxic and building up inside you. If it makes your skin grey, it is also damaging your internal organs. Unfortunately, this damage is slow to undo itself or you may just never go back to normal (like the blue man). Colloidal silver is a scam and is extremely dangerous, the scammers selling it prey on people who want a miracle cure for all sorts of ailments and don't bother to do a quick internet search to see if it is safe or not.
not lice. what else can it be.?
my gramma is 92 and her scalp itches terribly she says that there are tiny silver looking bugs on her hair. i have looked and cant see a thing. she says when she is laying down they dont bother her but when she gets up they start to move around. we have tried fungus shampoo. synalar solution. but nothing works. please help

Is her eyesight good? Maybe the "tiny bugs" are tiny flecks of dead skin, as in dandruff or seborrheic sloughing of skin material.
How can you stop nosebleeds after nose cauterization doesn't work?
I have a bad problem with nosebleeds; a sneeze, exercise, or sometimes no apparent reason will set it off. I had the affected nostril chemically cauterized with silver nitrate but after the procedure I had little, if any, improvement. Is there anything else that can be done?
If it could be from dryness you could put a little vasaline in your nose to keep it moist, a humidifier in your room, saliene spray. Dr told me when my son gets them to have some Afrin handy. Squirt some on a piece of gauze and plug nose with that during a bleed. You shold probably see an ENT to see if you have a vien that needs to be removed....sorry forgot what it's called. I know nosebleeds are nasty and sorry you have to contend with them.
What is the actual shelf life of Silvadene or Silver sulfadine? Does it just lose potency after expired?
What would the side effects be if I used expired Silvadene?
I'm not sure if the stuff that we use is expired but we've had it for years, since my sis got a really bad burn. And about a month or so ago I had a lighter essentially explode in my hands burning them fairly badly and it worked just fine. It stung a bit at first but once the sting was gone it worked fine and actually made it so that I was capable of sleeping which i had been unable to do because I was in so much pain.

How to get novocain to wear off?
I got novocain yesterday at 3pm (it's now the next day at almost 7am) and a little silver on my tongue right at the edge is still completely numb (not totally but a little, and kind of feels like pins and needles). How can I get it to wear off already? Thanks
You can't do anything. Your dentist may have used a long-acting anesthetic. Give it more time. If the numbness doesn't wear off in 24 hours you should talk to your dentist. There is a possibility that the injection caused some nerve trauma. Nerves do self-repair but it may take a while.
