If anything it will make you sleepy, but not high. It has antihistamine properties so it isn't going to be all too different from taking diphenhydramine hcl. Answered by Theressa Isabella 4 months ago.

Paxil? you have to take it for at least a month for it to kick in. i just got off of it after 2 years of being on it. Don't take it if you don't have to. i hated it. I felt drugged up and groggy. slept all the time. Answered by Nicolette Guerrieri 4 months ago.

I took a prescribed drug from my physician, "Promethazine" for nausea.?
6 hours later in an emergency room, I was mis-diagnosed as having a seizure? As I have high blood pressure could this drug have killed me? Very Concerned... Asked by Eugenie Dimanche 4 months ago.

This drug (Phenergan) is more likely to cause "downer" side effects - lowered blood pressure, respirations, etc. So, having hypertension is really not very significant in regards to this drug. Why do you say that you were mis-diagnosed as having a seizure? Answered by Diane Ruddell 4 months ago.

Actually yes, if I see a few interesting or suspicious questions/answers from someone I'll check out their about me and sometimes even search through their activity and even check the name they've signed up with(which no one should be able to see but there's a trick to it lol). Yeah it's a little stalkerish but it's really helpful to recognize trolls and gain insight on people here. Like you're a Mean Angel, what does that mean anyway? What exactly is Promethazine and what does it do..?
Asked by Laverne Rivas 4 months ago.

Promethazine is in a group of drugs called phenothiazines. It works by changing the actions of chemicals in your brain. Promethazine also acts as an antihistamine. It blocks the effects of the naturally occurring chemical histamine in your body. Promethazine is used to treat allergy symptoms such as itching, runny nose, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, hives, and itchy skin rashes. Promethazine also prevents motion sickness, and treats nausea and vomiting or pain after surgery. It is also used as a sedative or sleep aid. Answered by German Dematteo 4 months ago.

Anti-nausea medication. Answered by George Fillerup 4 months ago.

1] It is used for nausea, and sometimes for allergy symptoms. 2] it may also make you very sleepy, so do not mix it with any other meds, or alcohol - and do NOT drive! Answered by Charise Slim 4 months ago.

Is it ok to take sleeping pills and promethazine at the same time?
i got prescribed promethazine for having a cold is it ok to take it with advil pm? Asked by Caroline Kalinger 4 months ago.

Promethazine is an antihistamine. The stuff they put in over-the-counter sleep aids (diphenhydramine) is also an antihistamine. They both have sedative effects, although you can bet that the sedative effects of promethazine are much stronger, especially if it's your first time taking it. It's usually not a good idea to take two antihistamines at the same time. Besides it's unnecessary for this purpose. Speaking from experience, I was prescribed promethazine after getting my wisdom teeth out. It was for nausea, and it knocked me out cold, even though I wasn't using it as a sleep aid. Just see if the promethazine alone will do the trick. I probably will and that's all you need. Answered by Darrel Knockaert 4 months ago.

Promethazine pill high?
can u get high on them the same way u do from drinking sizzurp? Asked by Belkis Heeg 4 months ago.

Promethazine is just an anti-emetic (helps you with nausea). It does have the pretty common side effect of causing those who take it to be sleepy and/or to fall asleep. It is not going to get you high. Unless you have a very unique and unusual response to this drug then the most that will probably happen is you will feel very sleepy and probably just nod off. I have heard that some people associate drowsiness with feelings of euphoria, but honestly I think that the majority of that is just psychological. Sleepy is sleepy and it is not the same as a true feeling of euphoria. Again there are exceptions but they are few. Answered by Lucinda Ace 4 months ago.

No it wont, as ToxLabRat pointed out. Signs and symptoms of overdosage with promethazine HCl range from mild depression of the central nervous system and cardiovascular system to profound hypotension, respiratory depression, unconsciousness, and sudden death. How far along the previous statement do you really want to go? Dosage wise there isn't much between 'Signs' and 'death'. Answered by Chase Syvertsen 4 months ago.

While Promethazine is considered a class C during your pregnancy, it is very often prescribed after your first trimester. You may want to talk to your doctor and ask about Reglan. This is a lesser strength drug for nausea that I find works very well in expectant mothers. It's generic form is metacloprimide and only costs $4 at Walmart for those who do not have medical insurance. This is a class B and is very commonly used in women with severe cases of nausea (Hyperemesis Gravidarum) so I am confident that it would very well control your nausea. Again, talk to your doctor about this, as only he can prescribe this for you. Promethazine has been used successfully in many pregnancies, however Reglan is my preferred medication for treating pregnant mothers with excessive nausea. If you need anything else, please do not hesitate to ask. Best of luck to you and congratulations! Answered by Matt Ordahl 4 months ago.

Promethazine For Nausea Answered by Tiffanie Opal 4 months ago.

I am currently taking it. Honestly, I don't think a doctor would put us on something that would be harmful. I am 9 weeks with my first, after 2 miscarriages last year, so I know what you mean when it comes to worrying about jeopardizing the pregnancy. Phenergan is safe in pregnancy as long as you don't use more than the dose prescribed in the time allotted. I have been extremely nauseous and have had vomiting as well...I hate to say that I really don't think it helps too much. It may decrease the intensity to a degree, but not a lot. I was on Zophran at first, but it causes severe constipation. I figure I would take the nausea over that any day! Well, hopefully it will work for you better. Congrats and best wishes! Answered by Trenton Gilton 4 months ago.

I'm on it as well and only take it when needed. It's safe for the most part, its over using the drug that will cause harm. That's why it's classified as a class C. There are safer drugs for nausea out there and if you're really worried talk to your doctor. Took me 4 years to get pregnant and I've had bad morning sickness (all day sickness) that basically made it to where I couldn't do anything other than throw up. Chances are if your doctor gives you something they know what they're doing and just use it like they said and you and baby will be fine. Phenergan doesn't work for everyone either. Answered by Janice Ascensio 4 months ago.

I have an anaphylactic allergy to nuts, and I have an Epipen but I'm also supposed to take several Phenergan tablets as soon as I realise I'm having a reaction. I had a reaction when I was 7 weeks pregnant and I freaked out because I didn't know if either medication was safe. At the emergency room, the nurse told me it was safe; then the doctor arrived and told me I should avoid it if possible. He then called the specialist obstetric hospital in the city and they told him they prescribe Phenergan regularly to women with hyperemesis (severe morning sickness) in all trimesters of pregnancy. His opinion and the opinion of the other hospital was to take it if you absolutely must- ie, if you're vomiting so much your baby isn't getting proper nutrition, or in my case if an allergic reaction could kill you in the meantime. I wouldn't take it outside that circumstance, but I got the impression it was in their opinion a medication for serious situations, and not just for standard taking during pregnancy. If your sickness is preventing you from eating what you need for a healthy baby, then it sounds like your doctor is probably justified in prescribing it. If you only have mild nausea, though, it might be best to get a second opinion. Pharmacists are pretty helpful with that, too. To be honest I was glad my reaction settled without me needing to take the Phenergan- class C makes me nervous. I only feel really comfortable taking class A. Answered by Jannie Nacar 4 months ago.

Phenergan For Nausea Answered by Mardell Farnam 4 months ago.

I was also prescribed Phenergan while pregnant, I was VERY nauseous with my first child, I also looked it up and found things saying that they didn't know what harm it could do to the fetus and only take if necessary. I took it once before I read and NEVER took it again, because for me I would rather be sick for a few months than risk something happening to my little one. I have spoken to women since who have taken it and say nothing was wrong with baby, but personally I would recommend not taking it. I tried these bands you can buy in the pharmacy dept. of Wal-Mart, for like $8.00, they are called Sea-Bands and they seemed to help the nausea a little, didn't take it away, but anything that can help! Also if you can take the taste maybe try Ginger snaps....personally can't stand..yuck...LOL! Answered by Elijah Razzano 4 months ago.

in my opinion an ideal pregnancy would go without any medication at all, but with my second one i had to take something my doctor put me on Metoclopramide and i felt much better and my daughter came out just fine and she is doing great 9 months later, it is a choice you will have to make because with all medications there are always side affects i would talk it over with your doctor again and tell him your concerns and if you decide not to try the promethazine then try taking some ginger root and vitamin B6 and B12 ( can get usually wherever vitamins are sold) that's what i used in my first pregnancy and never had any problems. Answered by Evelyne Tehrani 4 months ago.

I was vomitting constantly during the first 5 months of my pregnancy. The Phenergan didn't do anything but make me sleep, as soon as I woke up, I was vomitting agian. There is another medicine that can be prescribed, that is just as, if not safer (as said by my midwife) It is called Zofran. And it works very very well without making you drowsy. It may be worth asking your doctor about if you are having alot of trouble. It is very costly though, it was around $14 per pill, so if you don't have insurance this may not be an option. Congrats Answered by Amalia Williamson 4 months ago.

I took it for nausea, My dr prescribed it, guess what, it didn't do any harm, but it didn't help either. My nausea was same. i felt like i just wasted my money on that drug. If u can tolerate nausea don't buy that drug. try these for nausea, put a piece of ginger under ur toungue. eat small meals, whenever u feel like it. rest if it gets very bad. good luck. Promethazine has not been studied in pregnant humans, but seems to be okay for animals. Antihistamines like promethazine can increase the risk of fetal seizures, which is why you'll want to discuss your options with your doctor before you get pregnant. Other drugs that are prescribed to prevent morning sickness are compazine, zofran, and reglan. Zofran seems to be the most effective according to my pregnant friends, but it's incredibly expensive unless you have very good insurance. Answered by Kaleigh Mankel 4 months ago.

I just came here following a violation notice e-mail. Then I saw this question, and I had to answer this. I've been wondering that for a long time. It's not only R&S, it's everywhere. The battle is always between two anti groups. And that probably explains the negative atmosphere everywhere. I guess it's the problem with forming groups. Even if you're intentions are good when you form it, it'd turn to negativity somewhere in the road. That's why if atheists become organised, I won't be a part of it. Starting an anti-anti group, of course, would bring nothing but more negativity. If someone really wants to protest negativity, let's just stay out of any silly groups. My doctor prescribed me phenergen for all three pregnancies. But you should always get permission from your ob before taking anything while pregnant. Good Luck hon! Answered by Mike Kisselburg 4 months ago.
