Penicillin VK 500 MG?
To the MD who kindly advised, yes, it was given to me by the dentist in preparation for the removal or root canal. I feel groggy and strange. I have contacted both my doctor and the dentist and have not heard back from either. Thank you very much for your advice.

I am taking this for preparation of a tooth extraction or root canal (have not decided which yet). My question is about a side affect. Each time I take this pill (4x a day with small meal) I am within 20 minutes or so, wiped out with fatique. As if I have taken a narcotic. I have checked the label, and the pill. Everything is correct. I have looked for side affects and fatigue is not listed. Could this be a side affect? If so, is it something I should report to my dr? Answered by Tam Mcneece 6 months ago.
Of Penicillin VK, usually a user will take it following the identification of an infection. Dentists will give you a prescription of antibiotics to take after the root canal. So unless this medication has been prescribed by your dentist/doctor prior to the root canal (which is unusual) you should not be taking it. One of penicillin's side effects is hemolytic anemia, which is the abnormal destruction of red blood cells in your bloodstream; this will cause your fatigue and exhaustion. Although this is an unusual side effect it nonetheless has been observed and is a result of sensitivity to the drug. You should notify your physician about this fact so that he/she will not prescribe it to you later. Answered by May Weger 6 months ago.

Penicillin VK is about the safest antibiotic you can take while pregnant. A lot of women get infections in their teeth during pregnancy, and this is exactly what they usually prescribe. Answered by Amalia Shabazz 6 months ago.
Can i take Penicillin VK 500Mg and Ibuprofen 800Mg?
i have to take these for my tooth, its swollen and ibuprofen for pain. Is it ok if i take these two? i am not allergic to any medication, also, can i also take it with Aleve?
Asked by Ileen Zitzelberger 6 months ago.
Penicillin VK is an antibiotic, and ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory. It should be perfectly fine to take these two together. I wouldn't take Aleve (naproxen) and ibuprofen together - wait a few hours after taking one to take the other. Answered by Portia Bourdage 6 months ago.
There is no interaction that I know of between Pen VK and Ibuprofen (Motrin). Also there is no interaction between Pen VK and Aleve (naproxen). I would not recommend taking the Ibuprofen and Aleve. Take one or the other, not both. Take the Penicillin on an empty stomach and the Ibuprofen or Aleve with food. Answered by Huong Roseth 6 months ago.

Taken every 6 hrs for 10 days it's probably the best and the cheapest treatment for streptococcal pharyngitis(strep throat) and pretty specific for Group A beta hemolytic strep. Make sure you're not allergic to penicillin. Answered by Marlen Mittendorf 6 months ago.

So im taking penicillin vk for my wisdom teeth and well I've been feeling better so I stopped taking my medicine. Though my boyfriend kept insisting I take them to fight infection and so I took a penicillin last night and right after my stomach hurt. In the middle of the night I woke up with a bad stomach ache and thought I had to use the bathroom but that wasn't the case, after a bit it went away. Then today I thought if I'm going to get stomach aches I'm not taking penicillin. Well I was fine all day then just about an hour ago my body started to ache and now I have the chills. Also ny tonsils kind of hurt when I touch my neck. I took a penicillin thinking it might just be because I missed my dose. Will I be ok or is this serious? I don't feel so great right now and would love some answers. Answered by Rolando Polchinski 6 months ago.
Penicillin is an antibiotic. That means that it kills bacteria. If you take it for a little while, it starts killing the bacteria, and you feel better. But the bacteria aren't dead yet. If you stop taking it, the bacteria rebound, and then you get sick. You should have continued taking all the pills as directed. That way, the bacteria would be completely wiped out and would not come back. Answered by Wiley Cohran 6 months ago.
Penicillin vk 250mg help?
i didn't feel warm to start with only when i took them plus i feel a bit itchy :/
Asked by Vaughn Daffin 6 months ago.
I have to assume you are taking the Penicilling because your physician felt you had an infection. In that case, you are likely feeling warm because of the infection, not the Penicillin. However, a direct answer to your question is that penicilling is eliminated via your kidneys, and will be pretty much completely eliminated within a day of taking the last dose. There are longer acting penicillins used in injections (Bicillin LA is the most common), but the Pen Vee K oral penicillin is eliminated rapidly. Answered by Elena Harrold 6 months ago.
Penicillin VK, What is the V related to?
Asked by Lyla Bevly 6 months ago.
It's a chemically improved formulation of penicillin as noted below. (reference cited) It might be the fifth compound tested, hence the Roman numeral V, or perhaps the various compounds investigated were listed a,b,c and so on. It was probably a useful experimental nomenclature. Penicillin V potassium is the potassium salt of penicillin V. This chemically improved form combines acid stability with immediate solubility and rapid absorption. It is designated 4-thia-1-azabicyclo[3.2.0]-heptane-2-car... acid, 3,3 -dimethyl-7-oxo-6-[(phenoxyacetyl)amino]... monopotassium salt, [2S-(2a,5a,6b)]-. The empirical formula is C16H17KN2O5S, and the molecular weight is 388.48. Answered by Nakia Wagganer 6 months ago.
The letters in Penicillin (as in V and G) designate different molecular forms of the drug. These penicillins derivatives are in synthetic form produced by altering the original molecular structure of penicillin and are differentiated by their structure on the end of the penicillin molecule. You want to take the penicillin on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating. Wait till about 1:30. You don't have to take the medication at 12 33 EXACTLY. I don't know how it was prescribed but it's usually 3 or 4 times a day. That's 3 or 4 relatively evenly spaced doses taken during the hours that you are awake. I am 12 weeks pregnent and my doctor prescribed penicillin vk 250 mg tabs to take every 6 hours(4 times a day)?
he gave it to my for my urinary tract infection.I asked him 100 times if it was safe for the baby but the amount i have to take a day worries me. Does anyone have any experince with this?
Asked by Thersa Remaklus 6 months ago.
Pen vk is classified by the FDA as a pregnancy class B drug. This means that animal studies have proven the drug safe and there have been no observed adverse effects of the drug on the baby, but there has been no large controlled clinical trials specifically showing that the drug is harmless. The classification ranges A, B, C, D, and X, with X being absolutely contraindicated in pregnant women due to documented serious birth defects. Penicillin has been prescribed to people, adult and child, pregnant and non, for approximately seventy years, so even though it's in the 'second-best' category it's safe to assume that it's OK. The likely reason that it's not an 'A' drug is there's simply no money in it for the pharmaceutical companies to do the studies that would place it there. And it's certainly better than an untreated UTI, which can become a kidney infection, spread to the bloodstream, lots of bad stuff which are real and known dangers both to you and baby. Hell even some 'D' category drugs, anti-seizure medications for example, are routinely prescribed during pregnancy because their benefits outweigh the risks. Luck! Penicillin Pregnancy Category Answered by Raina Pajtas 6 months ago.
Penicillin is safe in pregnancy. It is also used for other infections during pregnancy and in all three trimesters. The benefit of penicillin is that it has been so widely used and for such a long time that it's known to be safe. Also, the dosage is not too high. 1200mg per day would also be appropriate. If you're still anxious about it, another option would be MacroBid. It's also unlikely that there are too many drugs considered "class A" because there's too many hypothetical situations to ever say that it will "never" affect a pregnancy. So, class B is probably as reassuring as we're going to get. Go ahead and use the Penicillin. Answered by Tynisha Montney 6 months ago.
