Patanol during pregancy?
Hello, Iam in my 38th week of pregnancy.Iam suffering from severe ppllen eye allergy. Can I use Patanol for the allergy. Any advice or experience. Asked by Johnny Bridenbaker 1 year ago.

Patanol is a category C pregnancy medication, meaning no studies have been done in pregnant women to determine the possible side effects to the fetus. That being said, some category C drugs will be prescribed by your practitioner if the benefit outweighs the risk. In my opinion, the risk is probably very low. There is very little systemic absorption of eye drops, and even that can be minimized by punctal occlusion (placing gentle pressure on the tear ducts on either side of the nose) for one minute after instillation of the medication. Alternatives to treating allergies without medications are non-preserved artificial tears at least four times per day (this will help flush allergens out of the eyes) and cool compresses (to constrict blood vessels that get inflamed during bouts of allergies).
