Hi! I am currently on lo loestrin 24 fe and it is awesome! I have a much lighter flow and a shorter period with this birth control. The main reason why I am taking the birth control is for my unbearable cramps. Without birth control, I would be unable to do anything. I am currently using samples that my gyno gave me, but I will run out soon, and even with insurance this particular birth control is very pricey. I was wondering if there was any generic birth controls that are like lo loestrin 24 fe, or if you had any experience with severe cramps, but your birth control helped you significantly. What used to work for me was a shot of vodka in a glass of orange juice. Oil of evening primrose ( You get the capsules at most places that sell vitamins) won't help cramping but it can help regulate the flow if you take it every day. Answered by Antione Scatton 1 month ago.

I'm on Loestrin 24 fe. I have been on birth control for almost 4 years (2 on Yaz, 1 on BeYaz, and 1 on Loestrin 24 fe). I can not tell you how you will react to the birth control, but I can give you my experience. Because you are introducing foreign hormones into your body, you'll most likely be sick with ;pregnancy like" symptoms. I threw up each night for the first 3 nights. I took my first pill at 10pm and woke up about 1 sick. I threw up three nights in a row, and then after that I was fine. I had a little bit of acne, and about 3-5 months after being on birth control, my acne was cleared up. I didn't have a problem with headaches until lately, but I think that was because I wasn't wearing my contacts regularly. I think you should like birth control as long as you take it on time and get past the initial sickness. Your periods will be like clockwork and every month they will get a little shorter and lighter. The good thing is, if you don't like it you can always stop or change to a different type to see if you prefer it. Good luck and God bless you! ( : Answered by Viki Haffey 1 month ago.
I'm on alesse 28 so I can't say for sure, but I didn't have many side effects. Birth control may give you mild headaches for a day or two, but it relieves acne so that's a positive part of it :) And side effects you do feel will go away after 3 months so you should be fine after that, but it won't be bad at all I promise! Especially since it's gradual. Good luck! Answered by Arleen Prevett 1 month ago.

I got through a week with minimal spotting but on Friday (today is Monday) I got some heavier bleeding that got worse on Saturday and is not really really heavy, heavier than my regular period had ever been. I have a big vacation coming up on June 7th and I don't want to be bleeding through out it. Has anyone else experienced this? When does the constant bleeding stop? Answered by Pamela Cappo 1 month ago.
I was once on Loestrin Fe as well and I think that was the pill that made me bleed a lot. After a few months with it I got fed up and had my doctor change my prescription until we found something that worked best for me (one pill made me miss my period 2 months in a row which freaked me the heck out but finally found something that worked). Hopefully since you JUST started Loestrin the first month will be your worst month and it will start to regulate itself within the next month or so. It usually takes a month or two to start to regulate. If after 3 months (the time my doctor usually tells me to give a new pill to get it regulated before I decide if it's for me or not), if after those months it still is heavy and a burden to you then I would suggest going to your doctor and finding another pill that is more beneficial for you. I'm currently taking loestrin fe. I was put on it specifically because the estrogen is in a small amount, and I had a ton of problems with the higher estrogen in the first pill I tried. Lo loestrin has half the estrogen of what I'm taking, and it is currently the lowest dose on the market. Lower estrogen should give you less side effects. That said, it still took me three months to get used to the hormones. Maybe you're the same way. In another month, if you're still having symptoms, take a pregnancy test. If it comes out negative, wait another month, and if you're still having symptoms, see your doctor, regardless of what another pregnancy test says. This might not be the right pill for you, or maybe your body just doesn't respond well to any hormonal contraceptives. If after three months on loloestrin you still feel this way and need to go back to the doctor, ask her about a mini-pill, which contains no estrogen, just progestin. It is usually given to women who are breastfeeding, but can help women who have problems with taking estrogen. The only downside is that you have to be very careful about taking it at the exact same time every day, much more so than the regular pill, or it will not be effective. Good luck! The first time I started lo loestrin I got really sick and since the dr gave me 2 months of the sample I didn't use it for one month then when my period started I tried it again and I had no side effects. I also decided to take it during lunch with food instead of at night because an empty stomach with medication doesn't usually help. But if the problems continue definitely call your dr. In the package there are 24 blue active pills, 2 white pills and 2 brown pills. Should I be taking the white and brown pills?? Could I still get pregnant from just taking the blue pills?!? Help!! Answered by Chet Blacksher 1 month ago.
If your doctor told you to take only the active blue pills, then take only the active blue pills. These blue pills contain hormones that will suppress bleeding. The drop in hormones from the blue pills to the white pills, then the absence of hormones altogether in the brown pills, are what trigger a withdrawal bleed (or period). So if your doctor has prescribed you Lo Loestrin Fe to reduce or eliminate bleeding, take them as instructed. If you are unsure about this, just call your doctor and ask for clearer instructions. If you take your blue pills correctly and consistently, your risk of pregnancy is small. There is always a risk of pregnancy, even when using contraceptives, but this risk is significantly reduced when your birth control pills are taken correctly and consistently. By taking your pills in this manner, you're simply turning your regular birth control pill regimen into an extended-cycle regimen. It's basically the same concept as women taking birth control pill packs back-to-back to skip periods, or taking extended-cycle pills like Seasonale or Seasonique to reduce bleeding to four times a year. The white pills in a Lo Loestrin Fe pill pack are not "sugar pills". What people call "sugar pills" or inactive/placebo pills are pills that don't contain any hormones or active ingredients. The white pills contain 0.01 mg of ethinyl estradiol, the same amount contained in the blue pills. So the white pills are active pills too. The only difference being that the white pills don't contain any progestin, whereas the blue ones do. If you looked in the patient information leaflet that came with your pills, it will tell you these pills are "active". The brown pills contain iron but no hormones, and so are the only pills in your pack that can be considered "sugar pills". Answered by Karey Dioneff 1 month ago.
Lo Loestrin Fe Ingredients Answered by Fernande Touby 1 month ago.
I used to be on Loestrin Fe. The brown and white pills are simply just sugar pills. You take them to ensure that you get used to taking a pill every single day. They do not have the same effects as the other pills, they are just sugar. Every birth control is like this, there are four pills that are sugar pills at the time when you are going to have your period. Just take all of the pills to get your body used to taking some form of a pill every day. There should've been a packet of information that came with the prescription that will explain this more in depth. You can always feel free to call the pharmacy you got the prescription from. Pharmacy staff members are very helpful and explain how/when to take the pill if you are still confused or don't want to call your doctor. Answered by Ty Bridegroom 1 month ago.
Please call your doctor and ask her to explain it to you better. The answers you get from a forum such as this may be incorrect. Your doctor will be able to explain herself based on the fact that she prescribed these pills to you, where as strangers on this forum don't know you or your medical information. I'm taking Loestrin Fe, not Lo Loestrin Fe, but its the same thing other than a slightly higher dosage. I started out on this birth control 9 months ago and I love it. I did experience slight cramping (like I was going to start my period) on the 2nd row of pills the 1st month I was taking them for two or three days, but I've never had any other problems after that. I didn't have any weight gain or acne flare ups. I've never had any breakthrough bleeding or spotting in between my periods and my period always comes and goes right on time. Let me start by saying I am a bit of a control freak, so I already know i am over-reacting. I am just curious to know if anyone on this particular birth control experiences similar effects. I have been on this BC for about 4-5 months. I missed my period last month. I have completely protected sex with my boyfriend but missing a period is always a bit shocking for me. I should be getting my period within the next couple of days...but who knows. I was just wondering if anyone on lo loestrin fe ends up not having a period at all? Is this normal? My periods before birth control were fairly normal and at medium flow so it's not completely improbable for me to not get one with all the new changes in hormone levels... Anyway, feedback would be really reassuring. Thank you :) Answered by Ester Sobba 1 month ago.
What you describe is very common. As you may be aware, lo loestrin reduces the number of bleeding days per cycle. In many cases, it reduces the number to zero (the medical term is amenorrhea, which means no periods at all). From clinical trials, about one third of women did not bleed after starting lo loestrin (ie at the end of cycle 1). And after one year of taking lo loestrin, at cycle 13, this increased to about 50% of women. This gives rise to a slight problem, in as much as without periods it is difficult to detect pregnancy. Missing tablets might lead to ovulation and perhaps pregnancy, that might remain undetected. In this situation, the advice is to take a pregnancy test if you missed tablets and suspect that pregnancy might be possible. However, in your case, it sounds as if you have not missed tablets and in any case use alternative protection (assuming that "complete protection" means that you use something as well, such as condoms). Therefore it is extremely unlikely for you to be pregnant (virtually impossible!). If you would prefer to have monthly bleeds, then you may consider switching to another type of pill. Lo Loestrin Fe No Period Answered by Sanjuana Krail 1 month ago.
I am aware that this post was from 2 years ago, but I figured I actually have firsthand experience with the pill, unlike Doc Julio (despite the Dr. in front of his name) :) I have been taking Lo Loestrin Fe since June of 2011, so about two and a half years now. I have had, in total about 5 full periods within those last 2.5 years, and as far as I can tell, they were due to my error with taking the pill. Had I been more exact with my pill-intake timing when I first started it, I would probably not have had any periods whatsoever. I asked my gynecologist about this early on, because it totally freaked me out (I was not aware that no-periods was a common side effect). She said it is normal and not to be concerned about it, and that it wouldn't have any lasting side effects when I decided to discontinue my usage later in life. I hope this helped! First couple of month I was spotting twice a month then I would get my period for 2 days (before I was on the pill my period was 4 days) My concern is I skipped the month of June and so far July. I got a pregnancy test at planned parenthood and it came back negative. Has anyone else randomly stopped getting their period after a couple months in to lo loestrin fe? It's kind of weirding me out that I was fine and them all of a sudden the periods just stopped. I should add I was always irregular when it came to my period. Is that a factor or do you slowly stop having periods? Answered by Kiersten Debeaumont 1 month ago.
i am going through the same thing, I have been on lo loestrin since march, and i have always gotten my period (very light only for 2 days) and this month (july) is the first time i ever skipped. reviews say that loestrin makes the periods so light that it can also make it absent. i'm only late by a few days and all the tests i took say negative. as long as you have been taking the pills everyday around the same time, you have nothing to worry about. but since you skipped two months maybe you should switch to a different brand. it's common for periods to skip on birth control. i plan on going to the gyno next week to possibly switch pills. I just read three questions all complaining about lo loestrin. I use a different brand called Aviane, and it is AMAZING, no side effects and it made my period regular. Other questions have been saying that the birth control is causing them to have missed periods, so I think you should switch birth controls or stop taking that brand-name. I've been on lo loestrin for about 7 months and I had spotting the first month. I had a period the first month and since then I either have a very light period for a day or 2 or no period at all. Altogether I've probably skipped at least 3 or 4 periods. I've taken 3 pregnancy tests since I started skipping periods just cause I'm paranoid but it's completely normal to skip periods on this birth control it's actually for women with bad periods and that's why I'm thankful for skipping mine. I'd never go to a diffrent birth control this one is amazing. You don't need to worry about skipping periods as long as youve been taking the pill everday around the same time. If you were to do a Google search on "missed periods on Lo Loestrin Fe" you would find that this is a common problem. The reason being that there are only two brown inactive/placebo pills (though these brown pills do contain iron), like you said. With a lot of combination pills, there are a full week of inactive/placebo pills, or in the case of the Loestrin 24 Fe that you took in the past, there were four. Bleeding begins in the absence of hormones, and usually starts between Day 2-4 , with Day 3 being the most common, as it can take a couple days for the hormones to leave your body and trigger bleeding. Since there are only two inactive/placebo pills in the Lo Loestrin Fe pack, bleeding may not occur because the break from hormones is so short, and sometimes only 2 days is not enough. So missing a period isn't uncommon, though you are advised to take a pregnancy test and/or consult your doctor if you miss two consecutive periods. In the meantime, continue taking your pills every day and at the same time. If you continue having this problem in the following months, you may want to talk to your doctor about switching you to another pill. Having monthly periods is not medically or biologically necessary--until you're wanting children--but they're nice to have to assure yourself that your pill is working and you're protected against pregnancy. Answered by Theresa Jernstad 1 month ago.
this pill is very random, I have been on Lo Loestrin Fe for six months. I did not get a period the first two packs, the third pack I seemed to have my period every other week. The fourth and fifth pack i got my period on time while taking the placebo pills. JUST when i thought everything was going normal again, on my sixth pack (finished this week) I had some light bleeding on the second week, and now no period during my "regular" time or while taking the placebo. I am in my 3rd week of my 2nd month of Lo Loestrin FE and I can't say I lost any weight. Then again, I really haven't tried. As long as you add exercise and a good diet to your daily routine, none of the birth control pills can really make you gain weight, from my experiences. It's different for every women but no BC pills will help you LOSE weight. I personally like this new, low dose of Loestrin, which is now 10mcg estrogen. My period came on the day I took the 27th pill and it was super light. It wasn't even really blood. It was dark and thick and it lasted about a little more than a day. That's convenient! However, I won't continue with Lo Loestrin FE past this month because of financial issues (I pay $35 a month with insurance; it's about $89.99 without). If this doesn't apply to you though, give it a shot but don't expect to lose weight. Answered by Misha Moldovan 1 month ago.
Most BC pills won't make you lose weight. I started them when I was 17 and I'm 50 now. I did take Loestrin FE for a couple of years.
