How is Januvia working for your Diabetes ?
I'am new to Januvia. Just started useing it and also taking Metformin for the first time. I'am on Actos as well. Because Januvia is a new drug I was wondering how it was working for other people.
So far Januvia is working well.

Question about Januvia for Type 2 Diabetes?
My Doctor is considering putting me on Januvia, depending on what my A1c results are, coming up.
I cannot take Metformin because of the side effects.

Are there any of you taking or have been on Januvia, and what are your thoughts about this medicine.
My thoughts on all medications for type two diabetes are as follows...

If you can't deal with adopting a healthy diet and exercising each day, then learn to deal with the side effects of the medication(s), or learn to inject insulin. It's really that simple.

I took Metformin for many years. I dealt with the side effects. I hated them. I learned that through a healthy, natural foods based diet with all of it's nutrients, I could lower my insulin resistance better than any medication in existence. I also learned that plenty of moderate daily exercise lowers blood sugar better than any medication as well. If you're not willing to make a major change in lifestyle, then go ahead and go down that road of trying different medications. If you are willing to do what it takes to get off the medications, then read my profile.

Are there any new medicines on the market besides Byetta and Januvia.?
I am on glucotrol, metformin, januvia and have tried Byetta. Nothing seems to work for me. I don't want to go on Insulin. Any suggestions. I have also done Lapband surgery. I am at my wits end.
If nothing seems to work for you, then why not go on insulin? What are you afraid of? A little needle stick?

Of course, I felt the same way until my then 2 year old grandson was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and went on 4 shots of insulin a day. All of a sudden I realized that grown ups aren't allowed to complain about some things - being on insulin being one of them. Insulin really works for many people - as type 2s we can use diet, exercise, drugs and/or insulin. Up to you.
Can Januvia cause stiff joints and muscle soreness?
I just added Januvia to my meds along with Metformin XR and have noticed that my joints are extremely stiff and muscles are tender. Almost to the point where it is difficult to walk without a limp. I exercise regularily and it has even interfered with that. Any suggestions?
Any feedback on using Januvia and Metformin?
Had high Ha1c levels with last blood test. Currently taking 2000mgs/day of metformin and doctor wants to try Januvia and Metformin combo... would appreciate any feedback.

I would like to know if you can you use glipizide and januvia together is it safe???

Glipzide is for diabetes, call the pharmacy and ask them.
Have you experienced side effects from diabetes drug Januvia?
Do you research a drug in the internet before you begin taking it? There are some concerns with Januvia's side effects.

I loved Januvia. But when the newer version of it "Janumet" came out my doctor put me on that. Janumet has metformin in it. It sort of made food taste differently for a few days, but after that I had no side effects and it worked great on lowering blood readings. I didn't have any side effects when I was on Januvia either. I no longer have to take it because I have been watching my diet and exercising better than I used to. The person above is correct. The pharmacist told me there are actually very few side effects of Januvia and they have to list every single thing that ever happened to anyone during the studies, even if it was a broken fingernail. I took both of these drugs with a long lasting insulin. I never had a bad drop in blood sugar. It was great to be on.
Is this a bad mix of diabetic medications?
I know everyone is different ... but my doctor has me on lantus, actos plus met, prandin and januvia. I take the lantus once a day at night, the januvia in the morning, the actos plus met 2x a day and the prandin every time I eat. Is this normal?
Your doctor is the "Butcher of Health Care".
Januvia inhibits the body to fight cancer!!
Actos poses cardiovascular risk posed by these drugs should rule them out as legitimate treatments for diabetes, but doctors continue to prescribe them. Plus,Actos and Avandia Cause New and Permanent Fat Cells to Form. Changing bone stem cells into fat cells.
Macular edema:
This means you are 60% more likely to develop retinal swelling leading to vision loss even with well controlled blood sugars if you take Actos or Avandia than if you don't.

Finally, despite the original claim that they were not toxic to the liver, there have been a few reports of liver disease occurring in patients taking these drugs.

Actos has also been found to cause a doubling of fractures in a group of patients taking it for a relatively short period--less than 3 years.

Heres the plan because I do believe you are not eating correctly.

There are 4 key steps to controlling glucose levels :

1) EXERCISE- Walking is fine but Nordic Walking is Great. Exercise also lowers Glucose levels , lowers Cholesterol and lowers Blood Pressure. Google it.Exercise is Non-Negotiable !!!Thats why it is Number 1 on the list.
2) Knowledge-… This is a great site for info
3) Meds. Metformin to start. Never , ever take Actos or Avandia. They may kill you. Bone fractures, heart problems and what diabetics really don't need is that they change Bone Stem Cells to Fat Cells. Also never ever take Onglyza or Januvia . They can can inhibit the bodys immune system and let cancer spread.
4) Diet- A low carb diet is in order. I can't count carbs so I use Mendosa's Glycemic Index Diet. Great for the whole family.

Do the above and see if I am not right.

How are you dealing with Januvia?
Any intestinal concerns? Allergies killing you? Sinus Problems? Long term use? If you can tell me exactly how it works that would be great. Compare to Metformin.
  How Effective is Januvia?
In 2008 the drug companies spent more money marketing Januvia to doctors than they did on any other drug prescribed for a non-psychiatric condition. Not so surprisingly, there were more new prescriptions written for Januvia than for any other new drug.

Though commonly accepted practice guidelines state that patients newly diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes should be started on Metformin and possibly Insulin, the marketing onslaught has led to Januvia or the combination drug, Janumet (Januvia and Metformin) being prescribed to a very large number of people newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes

I have type 2 diabetes. my doctor prescribed Januvia and metaglip. They seem to be the same medication. Help?
I might be wrong.... can someone help me...I dont want to over do my diabetes meds.
I don't blame you for being concerned. If you don't want to overdo your meds (and you are right to think you might be overdoing them), then learn all you can about how they work and why your doctor thinks you need them. Once you learn that diet and exercise are a FAR more potent method of treating type two diabetes, you might have more incentive to do what it takes to get off the drugs before you end up on insulin. I did.

Once you learn what sulfonylureas like Glipizide do, (they wear out the insulin producing islets of the pancreas necessitating insulin later on), you'll likely find some motivation to get off the drugs. Metformin isn't nearly as bad, but it's not without it's dark side. Many doctors are guilty of 'polypharmacy' and should be forced to take everything they prescribe, in my opinion.

Anyone with type two diabetes on Januvia?
I was on a metformin, but I hate taking it becuase it gives me severe leg cramps? Would you recomend me asking my doctor about this medication? Any good luck managing your type two diabetes better?
I was also on metformin, 250mg/day. My doc at that time pushed it to 1000mg/day and I had a severe reaction to it. I learned later that he should have slowly increased the dosage as to avoid a severe reaction LOL.

I have also tried Januvia. For me, it did work, it lowered my BS and curbed my appetite (a very nice side effect). Unfortunately, I also got the hives from it and had to come off it. Same for Byette. They both worked for me, but both caused hives. Bummer!

Everyone is so very individual when it comes to managing our diabetes. My advice is this: see an endocrinologist. And remember that YOU are the one in control. I struggled for many months to get my primary care doc to try oral meds as I wanted off of insulin. I got nowhere and my brother recommended I go to an endo. Which I did. And she explained things to me that no other doc in 10 years of diabetes had explained to me. That alone helped me to handle being on insulin a little better. She also was willing to try a combo of insulin and oral meds. We're working on it :-) Good luck!!
Does anyone know anything about the drug Januvia?
My fiance' was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and was put on it. The paper that came with the prescription really didn't give much info. Is anyone on this drug that could give me some info? Thanks in advance!
I need help!
Here's more on Januvia than you ever wanted to know from

I take gloucovance myself. But diet and exercise are the most important part of controlling type II. The body produces insulin, but it gets trapped in fatty tissue. The better he controls his weight, the better his control will be.

And, when he gets romantic, teach him to say--"Got some artificial sweetener for me, baby?"
Can it take several days or weeks for glimepiride to work?
I was on Januvia for 30 days with no change to my numbers. Now I'm on glepiride for 5 days with no change to my numbers. I'm confused medications have no effect.
I was in the same boat. Simply taking oral meds is not the solution to controlling type two diabetes. The solution revolves around a comprehensive approach that includes a very healthy natural foods based diet and plenty of moderate daily exercise. Since adopting this basic philosophy, my weight has gone down, my blood sugar has gone down, I quit taking Metformin eight months ago, my energy is up, and I feel great.

Mitch_M: @AriesGDIM No, I'm on Humulin 70/30 & Januvia. Nothing special for overnight. Talked to the woman today; told me I don't eat often enough.
