if this is going on you need to see a doctor if you have to pop imodium's daily/before you eat. i would say give it 30 mins on an empty tummy, take the dosage on the bottle though. i have lived through this all too well. i understand 100%. i could not function without them. my medications were causing it and i also had a food allergy i was not aware of. my doc was shocked because of my age & to hear a complaint from someone so young. so she asked me a lot of questions! turns out i am lactose intolerant and i also can't take greasy foods. she put me on benefiber to help regulate my body, i called the people who make benefiber and they told me how to ease into taking it because it will rip you a new one if you have never had it before!!! something they forget to tell ya at the office.... i am now on benefiber full dose, i drink lactose free milk and i have cut back on dairy. i am no longer dependant on imodium and i have not had any for 2 years at least now. the benefiber is GREAT for your heart and body! my body was working too fast and was to irregular on it's own. this slowed it down and made me more normal. an added bonus is i no longer take motion sickness tablets because it has stopped since i have done all of this!! i now get to travel to the beach and i get to have a life. it can get better with a doctor's help i promise!!! there is hope! i hope you go. i hope you get the help i did, and i am one person who won't ever make fun of you! good luck! oh by the way if you clog yourself up with imodium it will only cause more bad bacteria and the problem will just go around and around with no stop. you must let your body void. it's not fun. i went through this in my transition into benefiber, just hang in there please!!! make sure you seek the medical help so you don't miss use any products, or of you have any worries your doc can help ya! i swear by this it changed my whole life!!! send a note if you need anything else.... I'd give it at least 1/2 hour for the drug to enter your system and start working. Then, start with something light and easy, like broth or loose mashed potatoes (my favorite). Stay FAR away from any dairy for a while. By the way, Immodium does NOT work by killing any bacteria in your stomach or intestines, either good OR bad. It works by temporarily paralyzing the muscles in the walls of your intestines, so that they don't spasm. This allows them to rest and to let more water be absorbed in your intestine, thereby making you less likely to have to run to the bathroom. Yogurt will make you go more, so AVOID it, please! wait at least 2 hours. Note that imodium will also kill the good bacteria, so you should eat some yogurt if you want to have a good digestion. Answered by Many Teano 4 months ago.

Your husband is right about the diarrhea needing to come out right away, but if you are truly ill, you will go anyway despite the Imodium before the medication can have the chance to take effect. This medication slows the muscle contractions and spasms in the colon, not blocks you. I had the same problem as your husband last year, and I was still experiencing watery diarrhea for a few hours after taking Imodium because the infection need to come out. Imodium works very well in stopping diarrhea, but it can cause constipation for a day or two...which will probably be the case for your husband anyway. Since you said your hubby has been going all day, I would advise him to take 2 Imodium to prevent dehydration. The only bad thing that can happen with Imodium is if you take too much of it over time, gain a tolerance to it and it no longer helps the problem. It also causes some drowsiness, but your husband needs to rest anyway. I hope he feels better! Answered by Bess Feenan 4 months ago.

I think he is right. Put him on the BRAT diet and he will be fine. Bananas Rice Apple Sauce Toast. Stay away from dairy for a few day except yogurt is good Stay away from high sugar drinks apple juice especially imodium tends to cause a rebounding effect, it will help his diarrhea but then cause constipation and the diarrhea tends to come back worse than before Answered by Reinaldo Mowbray 4 months ago.
It only relieves the symtom of Diarrhea. It can not hurt you. He does have a valid point in that you need to be careful to determine the real reason you are ill. If its just something you ate or a stomach bug then it will help. I keep a few tablets in my purse and it is very handy to have, to help friends and family out, especially when we are traveling and eating unusual foods and are off schedule. By the way, my vet even says its OK to give to my dog when she eats some "people" food that makes dogs sick. I need to cut it into a portion that is relative to her weight, but it works like a charm. Dosage question with Imodium A-D?
If the item I have is 1 mg per 7.5 mL, how much is .20 mg from that? I am sooo not mathematical at all and this is completely confusing me lol.

1.5ml 1mg/7.5ml means you can just multiply 7.5ml by 0.2mg, which equals 1.5ml Answered by Amparo Chiv 4 months ago.
Is it safe to take Imodium A-d while pregnant?
Asked by Gene Penovich 4 months ago.
it depends on your situation but you need to ask your doctor. Also, wouldn't recommend it! Constipation can be bad enough when you're pregnant but taking something that is going to block your bowels will only make it worse as well as add to your chance of hemmoroids! Answered by Salome Sgambati 4 months ago.
webmd has a list of some. yesterday i had a very bad migraine and called my doctor and she told me I could take regular strength tylenol (not ibufrofin or advil or aspirin , just tylenol regular strength) as long as i took the recommended dose which was two pills but to only take it if absolutely necessary (which it was I had the migraine for a day and a half and it was started to make me feel very sick). However, before I knew I was pregnant i took ibufrofin and was fine. Answered by Cyndi Cryar 4 months ago.
personally, i wouldn't. just drink lots of fluids to keep u hydrated. eat foods that are "binding" like popcorn, cheese and rice. (should fluff u right up lol) i think it would also depend on how many weeks u are. sometimes things are more safe at the end of pregnancy, while other things are better in the beginning. antacids. I even ate a piece of toast. Long story short, I cant handle eating a bunch of foods anymore. especially Dairy. I will not get into the reason why, but it is what it is. Yesterday though, I ate dinner (some dairy, not alot) and I have been really sick ever since. But I have never been this sick since I have had this problem. NEVER !!! But after all this time, I have had watery diarrhea, and it wont stop. The only thing I can think of, is that earlier in the day, when I showered, I did use a new body wash that had Almond Milk (Milk was on the ingredients by itself too) I read before that could make someone sick who cant handle dairy. But I figured no way. So with that being the only thing I have ever done different, is it possible that's the reason why I am so sick to my stomach. I mean I have ate tons and tons of pizza before, and never felt the way that I do now. I just want it to STOP !!!.... =( =( =( Answered by Enid Hoese 4 months ago.
Sounds like you really just have a bug. Keep yourself hydrated, buy some pedialyte and if it doesn't go away in 24 - 48 hours I'd see a doc. Answered by Arcelia Smothers 4 months ago.

Is IMODIUM A-D can be given to a 5-yr old as a self therapy for diarrhea?
Asked by Wes Hennard 4 months ago.
This drug should not be given to a child below 2 years without medical advice. See under "What should I discuss with my health care advisor' at the following website. Answered by Pansy Crumpton 4 months ago.
if it doesn't give a dosage don't do it. you should either contact a doctor, or a good but not so honest option is to call posion control & ask what to do if a 5 year old ingested say 1 pill. they make over the counter anti diarreals that can be used for children, I am not sure about imodium. if you don't have the package, check the website Answered by Junie Thramer 4 months ago.
It is important to realize that a 5 year olds system will be having diarrhea for a reason - something "bad" is supposed to be expelled from the body. HOWEVER - it is very important to keep the child hydrated, as in give them electrolytes and water (gatorade - smart water etc.). If the diarrhea is in conjunction with a fever, seek medical help. In any case if diarrhea persists for more than eight hours you should seek medical assistance. Anti-diarrhea medication is meant for adults, not typically for children. Do not ignore these symptoms in conjunction with fever (over 99 degrees F). Seek medical help. Answered by Gus Castorena 4 months ago.

Does anybody know if there is a connection with Imodium use and kidney stone formation? I have been dealing with CHRONIC kidney stones (over 60) for the last six years. I have been through test after test and from doctor to doctor with no answer ever found for what on earth is causing these awful things. I have asked every doctor if the fact that I take imodium every day to control my IBS-like symptoms could be causing these kidney stones to form. They all brush it off and say they don't know. I am so tired of going through this and I have tried everything. I don't even have ANY of the risk factors for kidney stones - no family history, I don't eat red meat, I don't take calcium supplements, I drink plenty of water, etc. From my memory it seems that I started the Imodium use about 6 months to a year before the first kidney stone. If anybody has ANY information or insight on this I would really appreciate it! I have to go in tomorrow for and IVP and I'm just so tired of the pain and all the tests and of being tired all the time. Answered by Meagan Delbusto 4 months ago.
I was asking the same question myself. I am in the middle of passing my second stone. My first stone passed almost 5 yrs ago. I do not have IBS, but I am lactose intolerant and I generally use either Pepto-Bismol or Imodium A-D. Lately I've been using Imodium at least a couple of times a week for the past couple of months (too many tasty treats around the holidays). I am generally pretty healthy and eat well. I did little bit of research and the most common type of kidney stones are Calcium ones. "Calcium can combine with other substances, such as oxalate (the most common substance), phosphate, or carbonate to form the stone." Dibasic calcium phosphate is listed as one of the inactive ingredients in Imodium. I'm not a doctor but it looks like there may be a correlation, especially if you are taking Imodium every day. The dibasic calcium phosphate is only listed for the caplets and not the liquid form. So if you're taking the caplets you may want to switch and take the liquid stuff and see if the kidney stones go away or are reduced. I plan to stop taking Imodium and just use Pepto-Bismol in the future. Good luck. Answered by Salvador Dolbeare 4 months ago.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested. They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis! This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease. It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges. Reversing Your Kidney Disease? Answered by Raymond Ken 4 months ago.

In general, medical studies of IBS during pregnancy recommend conservative treatment, including dietary changes, soluble fiber suplements, exercise, and biofeedback. Pregnancy seems just as likely to affect IBS for the better and not automatically for the worse. Your OB/GYN should be able to address all of your concerns. Codeine is a category C drug. It can cause harm to the fetus. Research has suggested that there is a correlation between congenital defects and codeine use during pregnancy. i.e. ear, eye, cardiac, hypospadias, etc. Also, the infant becomes "addicted" and goes through "withdrawal" after birth. It is safe to breastfeed while on codeine. In regards to Imodium sulfate; Imodium A-D has been proven safe for use during pregnancy. Check withyour Dr. on the daily dosing guide.
