Anyone ever taken Glycolax?
My doctor put me on glycolax to regulate me more, so to say. Anyone taken it, had any experiences, side effects, anything in particular that isn't good to eat or drink while on it? Oh and what's the best time to take it?

Welcome to the wonderful world of polyethylene glycol!!! I must say that after taking this medication (Mine was under the trade name Mira Lax, which is now sold over the counter) I was a new person. I take a heavy daily dose of Schedule II Narcotics, namely 350mg of methadone which has the unfortunate side effect of severe constipation. We're talking BM's once every 12-14 days! Glycolax literally saved my life. I experienced relief within three days, but keeping in mind I was an extreme case... No side effects whatsoever... for me that is. Some foods you may want to watch out for in the beginning are the typical constipators.... Cheese, bananas, and some types of pasta for some people. As far as the best time to take the medication, I always took mine right before I went to sleep to allow it to work while I was resting.... Might work best if taken about an hour after your last meal also... If the Glyco doesn't help you, ask your doc if Reglan (Metoclopramide) is an option. It is a medication that stimulates gastric motility and peristalsis (The squeezing movements of your intestines) I have also had good luck with this medication. Best of luck, and remember... Can I mix glycolax with milk?
Asked by Maryam Kisicki 4 months ago.
You could if you wanted. Though, I'm on that medication also and if I drink milk, I tend to have to go to the bathroom right away, which wasn't the case when I wasn't on the medication. Though, you may be different, just try it out and see how you feel. Answered by Roxane Strose 4 months ago.
Sure you can mix it with whatever you want to mix it with. Answered by Monnie Fare 4 months ago.
milk may cause a delay in empying of stomach, so it may cause delay in drug absoption in the intestine,, and it may cause decrease in drug concentration in the blood,, and decreases its effect on body.. Answered by Shara Mccamy 4 months ago.
I'm on Glycolax for my IBS, and it says to mix it with water, juice, coffee, tea, or soda.. Does this mean I can't mix it with milk at all??

Previously, my doctor prescribed Zelnorm to treat my IBS. It worked OKAY; It DID help. Since the FDA pulled Zelnorm off the market due to some side-effects (heart problems), there is nothing available to treat IBS. I have lower abdominal pain ALL the time. Imagine that someone has put a long balloon in your lower intestine and blew it up. None of my clothes fit me, and I have to buy pants in a size larger than I actually am in case I have an "episode" of increased pressure (it comes and goes all day every day). I have tried drinking more water (all it does it make me use the bathroom all day and all night and I wake up in a bad mood due to lack of sleep), taking fiber pills, taking laxatives, glycerin Suppositories, gas-x, papaya extract, Aloe Vera, etc... You name it I have taken it. I have been taking Miralax (Glycolax, RX version) for a few months now. It does seem to help a bit. Is this a long-term solution? Any suggestions? Answered by Minerva Lawman 4 months ago.
IBS has several types. If you were taking Zelnorm, it must have been the constipation predominate type, as that is the only type Zelnorm was approved for use in. Another choice for the constipation symptoms is Miralax, Glycolax. These are polyethylene Glycol products, also now sold over the counter. They work well and are well tolerated. Another choice is a new drug called Amitiza. It is expensive, about $300/mo. There are other drugs , but a family doctor should be able to help you with your choices. Can you take Glycolax and Metamucil together?
Glycolax does not work "completely". Drinking ALOT of water and I usually get 18 grams of fiber per day. I just thought the Metamucal will help me get the extra fiber I need. Neither one of them work well on their own. I thought I would combine the two. Any ideas. About to run out of them. Already been to...

ring pharmacy and ask to speak to the pharmacist tell them about any other things or medications that you take, they are often very helpful and can sometimes save a trip to doctors. Answered by Yen Thoroughgood 4 months ago.
GLYCOLAX & MIRALAX.Plz reply ASAP?
MY GIRL IS 7 YEARS OLD SHE'S TAKING GLYCOLAX BUT ALSO IS GOING TO TAKE MIRALAX.IS ANY PROBLEM COULD BE.??
Asked by Gemma Vasso 4 months ago.
They are both the same so she should not take both of them; Why would you double dose on the same medicine? Answered by Rutha Engelsman 4 months ago.
Yes, don't double the dose. One is name brand and one is generic. But, she's only 7...you should try to find the cause of the problem to begin with. Maybe she has food allergies or something. I was on miralax and ended up being intolerant to many foods. Answered by Lizzie Wandersee 4 months ago.
I think its a neurological issue. Answered by Elaine Groehler 4 months ago.
What does Glycolax Powder do to your body?
Asked by Octavia Feehan 4 months ago.
This medication is used to treat occasional constipation. It works by holding water in the stool to soften the stool and increases the number of bowel movements. Extended use or overuse may result in dependence on laxatives and chronic constipation. Overuse may cause diarrhea, excess loss of body water (dehydration), and mineral imbalance (e.g., low sodium). Answered by Rosamond Loza 4 months ago.
If I were you, I would not want it in my body, although it is used as a laxative, it is also used in coolants for your car. It is a chemical used for many things. Look it up on the internet. If you want a laxative , look for a natural product like psyllium or something. Answered by Selene Linnane 4 months ago.

I was wondering if it in fact works the same as the prescription. An answer about this would be great, because my gastroenterologist says I need to take this form of laxative once a day, but I don't want to take an OTC one if it does not work. Thank you! Answered by Tatyana Woelk 4 months ago.
There are the same thing. This is the case in which the brand Miralax was given OTC exclusivity for a period of time. Once that ends, the generic will join it as OTC. The last case of this was with Prilosec. Answered by Maryjane Calderin 4 months ago.

Glycolax powder help with over the counter Relief?
my friend gave me this prescription for constipation for my son... he is 8 and still has it and he goes so much and its huge! I know that there is a over the counter medicine just like the prescription she gave me for glycolax. help do you know of any over the counter similarity?
Asked by Wallace Nappo 4 months ago.
They are the same drug. Miralax is the brand name. When the FDA granted OTC status to Miralax, the brand was given OTC exclusivity for a period of time. That exclusivity does not apply if you get it as a Rx. Answered by Shaquana Fleurent 4 months ago.
