What is the side effect of flutamide?
IT IS ANDROGEN ANTAGONIST. Asked by Dawna Hosteller 4 months ago.

Flutamide therapy is for men with advanced prostate cancer at stage D2, when there is evidence of metastases (cancer spread) to other areas of the body. The following side effects are ones that i know are common when using flutamide Hot flashes Swelling of the breasts (gynecomastia) Loss of interest in sex (decreased libido) Nipple discharge (galactorrhea) Impotence (inability to obtain or sustain an erection) Diarrhea These side effects are less common side effects Nausea and vomiting Increases in blood tests measuring liver function. These return to normal once treatment is discontinued. Yellow-green discoloration of urine Most people do not experience all of the side effects listed. Side effects are often predictable in terms of their onset and duration when using this treatment. The side effects are almost always reversible and will go away after treatment is complete. Another tid bit for you is that there is no relationship between the presence or severity of side effects and the effectiveness of Flutamide. Have a great day and God Bless. Answered by Doyle Hendler 4 months ago.

Flutamide Is: Flutamide is an antiandrogen. It works in the body to prevent the actions of androgens (male hormones). Flutamide is used in the treatment of prostate cancer. Flutamide may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide. If you miss a dose? Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and take only your next regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose of this medication. What are the possible side effects of flutamide? Stop taking flutamide and seek emergency medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives). In rare cases, flutamide has caused severe liver damage resulting in death or hospitalization. Notify your doctor immediately if you develop nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, unusual fatigue, loss of appetite, "flu-like" symptoms, yellow skin or eyes, itching, clay-colored stools, or dark urine. These symptoms may be early signs of liver damage. Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take flutamide and talk to your doctor if you experience hot flashes, diarrhea, skin rash, increased skin sensitivity to sunlight, loss of sex drive, impotence, lowered sperm count, enlarged breasts, amber or greenish discoloration of the urine, rectal bleeding or inflammation, or blood in the urine. Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome. Answered by Callie Alken 4 months ago.

What is the difference between flutamide and finasteride?
Is there any difference between flutamide and finasteride? Asked by Houston Stuckman 4 months ago.

Yes.. Although both prevent the effects of androgens in the body, they are different in their mechanism of action. Finasteride is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor, meaning that it will prevent the synthesis of Androgens. Flutamide on the other hand is an androgen antagonist, meaning that it will prevent the synthesized androgen from binding to the androgen receptor on a cells surface, thus blocking the biological effect. Has anyone tried flutamide for hirsutism tratement?
Has anyone used flutamide for hirsutism and what are the results? Also for how long should it be taken for good results and what happens if I stop them? thanks Asked by Deann Schleicher 4 months ago.

Z Z, I refer you to the answer that I gave to your previous question - "Can I use flutamide and Diane 35 together against hirsutism?" Wherin I advised that 'You would be advised to discuss this with your pharmacist and/or doctor' because at that time you were enquiring about a combination treatment with Flutamide. I would respectfully point out that different people react in different ways to medication and someone else's response may not be the way that your body will react. Flutamide, an acetanilide is a nonsteroidal, orally active antiandrogen. It exerts its antiandrogenic action by inhibiting androgen uptake and/or by inhibiting nuclear binding of androgen in target tissues or both. Do not stop taking Flutamide unless your doctor/healthcare provider tells you to. Take Flutamide exactly as directed. Get answers from millions of real people. What are the side effect of flutamide on cellular and humoral immunit
Asked by Valeria Morence 4 months ago.

Flutamide is categorized as an antiandrogen. Antiandrogens are substances that block the effects of testosterone. Cancer of the prostate depends on the male hormone testosterone for its growth. If the amount of testosterone is reduced it is possible to slow down or shrink the cancer. Flutamide does not have a direct effect on the cancer, only on the testicles or ovaries. The resulting lack of testosterone (in men) and estrogen (in women) interferes with stimulating cell growth in testosterone or estrogen dependent cancer cells. Answered by Debi Do 4 months ago.

How does flutamide reduce testosterone levels?
It doesn't make any sense? If it's an androgen blocker, then LH will think that testosterone levels are low and therefore create more testosterone? Asked by Maxima Sanft 4 months ago.

I think the following article is self-explanetory. Side Effects of Flutamide - for the Consumer Flutamide All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome when using Flutamide: Blood in the urine; breast growth; decreased sex drive or ability; diarrhea; hot flashes; inflamed prostate; nausea; rash; rectal bleeding; vomiting. Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Flutamide: Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); brown urine; flu-like symptoms; impotence; loss of appetite; muscle aches or soreness; nausea; severe diarrhea; stomach pain/tenderness; unusual tiredness; vomiting; yellowing of skin or eyes. The question is: Flutamide is an organic compound containing three fluorine atoms in each molecule which is used in the treatment of prostate cancer. A chemist extracted flutamide from a commercial tablet weighing 0.2032 g leaving a residue of non medicinal ingredients that weighed 0.1282 g. Elemental analysis of the extracted flutamide revealed the presence of 0.0155 g of fluorine. What is the molar mass (in g/mol) of flutamide? (atomic mass F = 19.00 g/mol) Multiple choice answers are: a) 233 b) 276 c) 287 d) 303 Could you explain/show me how I should approach this question and solve it? Thanks. Answered by Sheldon Jeck 4 months ago.

Mass of the flutamide = ( .2032 - .1282)g = 0.075g we have .0155 g of fluorine with 3 atoms of F per mole of the compound moles of F = .0155 / 19 = 0.0008158 moles so moles of the compound = 0.0008158 /3 = 0.000272 = moles of compound which has mass of .075 g so mass of 1 mole = .075 / 0.000272 g / mole 275.8 g / mole another method is to use percentages rather than moles we have .0155 g of fluorine with 3 atoms of F per mole of the compound so .0155g = 3 x 19 g per mole of the compound = 57 g of F per mole %F in the compound = .0155 / .075 = 20.7 % so if 57g = 20.7 % , 100 % = 57 x 100 / 20.7 = 275.6 g answer b again Answered by Dimple Schomberg 4 months ago.
