I only have old references for this product, the drugs@fda web site says that the only supplier (that I knew of) has taken it off the market but it was not due to a factor of safety. The USP XVIII, on page 262 lists "Evans Blue Injection" as a "sterile solution of Evans blue in water for injection" (not saline). It contains in each ml, not less than 4.30mg and not more than 4.75 mg of Evans Blue. This product had been available in 5 ml ampules from New World Trading Corporation. The "Dispensing of Medication", 8th Edition by Hoover , page 528, states than Evans Blue USP is a powder that is very soluble in water. It is destroyed by strong oxidizing agents and reducing agents. It is precipipitated from solution by strong solutions of neutral salts. (I myself would not mix salt in it, you are tempting fate.) It is stable and may be autoclaved at 15psi for 30 minutes. The USP lists the ph as between 5.5 and 7.5. But, If you were not going to use this for clinical purposes( not for injection), then you would weigh out an amount that could be accurately weighed on your scale, say 500 mg and then dilute it with the normal saline to 50 ml. I would not mix salt and Evans Blue directly together, as you risk a ppt occuring that would not dissolve. Answered by Anya Bulnes 1 year ago.
