Can Delsym cause this?
The cough gets worse when I'm scared, agitated, nervous or really excited
Asked by Florentino Stigsell 1 year ago.
I took some Delsym last night, my doctor had directed me to do so for my cough. And after it took effect, i was really confused. I mean, i couldnt form a logical thought. My brain was just throwing words together. I was trying to sleep when this happened, and it was really upsetting me. I felt as though i had lost complete control of my brain. I'm a diagnosed schizophrenic, so you can imagine how scary this felt. It was over this morning, praise God. The Lord is truly good. The Delsym has a warning on it against taking it while on seizure or antipsychotic medication, and I take both, but my doctor thought it was safe. I'm not going to take it again though. I took the lowest possible dose. Was what I experienced caused by the Delsym? or at least "enhanced" by it? Answered by Bethann Harcus 1 year ago.
This is not a normal cough i have, meaning its not caused by plegm. I've been checked for that. My doctor says my nerves are inflamed, and my gag reflex is really bad. So that's why he wanted to put me on something to SUPRESS my cough. I'm seeing a neurologist as well, and he's going to do more research into what i'm experiencing, he says its possible i have tourette's. Answered by Carmela Pavao 1 year ago.
Yes, delsym can definately cause those symptoms, especially with the medications that you already take - which is why there is a warning on the bottle that tells people not to take it if they take certain medications. It happened because you had a drug interaction. The Delsym interacted with your other medications, causing the side effects of the Delsym to worsen and become heightened. Don't worry though, the side effect only lasts as long as the Delsym is in your system, so now that it is out of your system you should not have any other problems. If you need to take something else for your cough, talk to your doctor and your pharmasist. Usually pharmasists are better at knowing drug interactions and helping patient find something that will not cause an interaction. Answered by Jacinda Strieter 1 year ago.
Wow, you must be a real light weight. You deff. went on a robo-trip, only most people need six times the recommended dose to reach that level. You might have had a bad reaction, and DXM just hits you a lot harder than it would most people. Then again, it could have everything to do with your schizophrenia. Either way, it was caused by the dextromethorphan in the Delsym. I suggest seeing your doctor and using cough syrups that don't contain DXM. Answered by Evangeline Petronella 1 year ago.
Yes, you need to call your doctor before taking it ever again. You need to let your doctor know your symptoms, that way he can give you something else, your doctor need to check his PDR book. Answered by Stella Rina 1 year ago.
i dont think so i think its because you are way too worried so stress can do that to you. you need to relax and listen to your doctor he knows best. So relax and be happy and take the medication the doctor gives you and you will be fine. and ask your doctor about this very question so you can get it out of ur mind and be at peace. What is DELSYM cough expectorant?
Asked by Mindi Bussard 1 year ago.
We have the DELSYM cough suppressant in our medicine cabinet, which has helped our kids (ages 3 1/2 and 6) tremendously through some bad coughs associated with colds and other illnesses. The suppressant does exactly what is sounds like, it helps to suppress or hold back the coughing. If they make an expectorant, it should do the exact opposite. So depending on what your needs were, the Suppressant would suppress the cough (for more of a dry cough or where your coughs aren't productive and it's more of a nuisance), the Expectorant would make your coughs more productive (for a wet cough, or when your doctor says you need to get the 'gunk' out of your system). Hope this answers your question. We haven't tried the expectorant, but DELSYM is a good brand and we have been pretty impressed with the suppressant and its effectiveness, so if we needed an expectorant I'd definitely consider buying. Answered by Hyman Crusan 1 year ago.
The need to cough could just be an allergy symptom (probably accompanied by watery eyes, runny nose, sneezing). But if you have a lot of chest congestion that makes your chest feel tight then you probably could use an OTC expectorant like Mucinex or Robitussin. My advice is: put in a call to your local pharmacist- they're easier to get in touch with than a phycisian and can most likely tell you exactly what you need! Answered by Wilhelmina Felker 1 year ago.
Yah its cough medicine. It’s a cough medicine doctors and pharmacists have recommended for years. In fact, Delsym is the only over-the-counter cough liquid that can deliver 12 hours of cough relief in a single dose. That means you and your children can get the rest you need without getting up for more cough medicine. Plus, as a cough remedy, Delsym is also a great value. You dose less often two times daily (every 12 hours) vs. up to six times daily for other cough syrups Answered by Fern Houghtling 1 year ago.

Delsym is tricky to judge with DXM, because it does not contain Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide, but Dextromethorphan Polystirex. The difference between the two is that Hydrobromide is a type of salt that dissolves so that it dissolves quickly to release the medicine fast, but Polystirex is an edible plastic that dissolves slowly, releasing the medicine quickly. This makes the DXM build up in the bloodstream to a high extent, instead of having it come in waves. This can be very hard on the body, and can most certainly slow the digestion of the actual DXM. You did not overdose. Ive dranken two bottles of Delsym and I was just fine. You might have had a bad reaction to the Polystirex, or possibly could be mentally creating these effects due to the unknowing nature of what you did. If it doesnt go away after a while longer, I suggest going to a doctor. Good luck! Answered by Vicki Bouyer 1 year ago.

You didn't Overdose(Infact, you have to drink 2 8oz bottles or more to OD), you may be allergic to DXM, or, I've also heard these are the effects of attempting to abuse DXM and taking too little.(You took way too little), And I think i've also heard that these effects end within a month. I overdosed on delsym!! Please help!!?
It has been 24 hours since i have taken Delsym to get high and the high isn't wearing off!! I know it was stupid to do and I'll never do it again! Just please tell me when it will wear off!!!!
Asked by Julie Midkiff 1 year ago.
Delsym contains dextromethorphan which commonly produces an unplesant high. Also delsym is a slow release form with effects that can persist much longer then ordinary cough syrups. If it's been twenty four hours then it's starting to wear off now. An OD on dextromethorphan just doesn't feel good at all. Don't use that stuff to get high. Also, a need to get high suggest certain emotional problems that you may need to deal with. Answered by Bernardo Rowton 1 year ago.
WHY'D YOU DO THAT?????????????? You have an addiction and need to get help! I drank 2 5oz bottles of Delsym, I know it was wrong. But have I permanently damaged my brain in a serious way?
Asked by Allyson Lokke 1 year ago.
Wrong in terms of smart and stupid, yes. Morally,.. no. But I wont' get into that. Delsym is DXM Polystirex, which is different than your normal Hbr as it is DXM encapulsated in a type of polymer (similar stuff to polystyrene). This variation causes it to be absorbed notably more slowly and not be an all at once serum level of Dextromethorphan in the blood plasma. I say this to give you the 'good news' of what you did. It is generally worse to take the instant release than the type release. However, you did take 10oz of it, which is a very high amount and I'm sure you are familiar with the levels of such ingestion. I've never fully understood ingesting DXM beyond the scope of I remember what it was like in my young teenage years and this may have been something I would have tried under peer pressure (thankfully none of my friends got into it). Brain damage -- well, it either happens or it doesn't. There isn't a middle ground here. What is done is done now.. there isn't an ongoing metabolic process of damage occurring as you read this -- if any NMDA mediated damage occurred it would have done so in the hours you were "tripping" . The type of brain damage I have seen associated with Dextromethorphan isn't common in infrequent or one time users. Further it is a type of not well studied damage that builds upon itself with each concurrent use of DXM. This means that it likely is a result of cumulative , habitual use. Which the brain can no longer repair as quickly as the damage is done with each use. Example: John Doe uses 10oz of Delsym one time -- didn't really like it,.. feels a bit different for 2 days instead of 1.. but otherwise returns to his normal self within a few days. He had a bit of acute damage that occurred, but the brain quickly repaired such damage. Example 2 : Moronic Monty thinks DXM is the best thing since sliced bread. He uses insane amounts of DXM as he has built a tolerance -- and uses it whenever he can. Often 3-4 times per week, and generally every weekend night. This goes on for a year or more -- Monty is not quite the same person he used to be. He just acts different,.. he has memory problems, isn't as sharp as he used to be, and finds himself anxious and depressed more than he used to. The first example is common -- and is similar to you -- yes, the brain was inundated with toxins when you took the overdose of DXM -- however, if you STOP now.. and don't use it anymore -- your brain will not be permanently damaged. You will NEVER feel any different than you do now mentally, let me put it that way. On the flip side, you continue to use it you are playing with fire. It is regular use of DXM that I have experienced cause the positive symptoms in individuals.. though every once in a while there is a case of a single use of DXM causing massive issues in a person, it is rare. Once it has worn off, where you stand at that point is the 'worst' it will ever be.. and the brain is likely as you read this repairing some minor neuronal issues as we speak. In fact the brain is always in a neuroprotective mode -- it is ALWAYS being damaged.. whether by free radicals, jolts to the head, alcohol/substance use, even certain elements in food and environment. But, this is expected and the brain is well capable of repairing this level of ongoing expected "damage" if you want to call it that. It is more metabolic processes. To sum up -- Have you permanently damaged your brain in a serious way? Highly unlikely. If you have to ASK, that says a lot. It means there is nothing pervasive about your current mood and thinking that is obviously 'wrong' to you. Please, leave the DXM alone. Not because it's "wrong", or your parents wouldn't want you doing it..etc.. But because you have but ONE brain -- why risk it with some purposeful overdose of an over the counter cough medicine for what most would honestly tell you is not that 'pleasurable'.. I know high doses of DXM often cause Gastrointestinal upset.. it isn't all fun I'm sure. And even if it is, it is too toxic to play around with. If you have friends who use it and use it often -- they can make their own choices - but you WILL be able to watch and notice a dulling of their minds over time if they use it long enough. (Years). You are fine -- your concern is a healthy reaction - hold onto that concern and find another release. I would rather someone do other types of common drugs abused than DXM, as many are less dangerous. Take care, Answered by Noel Quelch 1 year ago.
This Site Might Help You. RE: I drank 2 5oz bottles of Delsym, I know it was wrong. But have I permanently damaged my brain in a serious way? Answered by Christinia Brunswick 1 year ago.
I wouldn't think so, alcohol over years of abuse does permanently damage your brain somewhat... even up to the point of becoming a mental vegetable (wet brain) I think you're just still withdrawing from the excesses of the past 2 weeks, stay clean for a while more and you should be back to normal. Just be aware of drinking particularly if addiction runs in the family somewhere, or if you see it maybe becoming a problem with your friends (I'm not suggesting it does or anything), it's seen as such a normal thing and can wreck so much. Lecture over, you'll be fine in a few days! Answered by Sylvie Chowning 1 year ago.
How long will I get better if I have a stuffed nose, sore throught, bad cough, headache, when i took Delsym?
As i was saying, Delsym once, and two Advil Liqui-Gels?
Asked by Arlette Malanga 1 year ago.
Delsym and advil will help for the cough and headache. Delsym takes maybe an hour and 30 minutes to kick in in my experience. Ibuprofen which is advil takes about 30 minutes. Take a nasal decongestant for the stuffed nose. I find benzedrex or sudafed (pseudoephedrine, not phenylephrine) to work best Answered by Wilson Boyl 1 year ago.
Has anyone got high from delsym (30mg dxm)?
Delsym is a small bottle, with 30 mg dxm, can you still get high from it?
Asked by Fredia Noorigian 1 year ago.
Delsym is not the kind to go with, it has little time release balls that the DXM slowly dissolves out of, not the brand to go with for using cough medicine recreationaly. Also never use any night time cough meds, use tylonol cough and cold or robotussin DM, but using these meds are toxic to your liver in high doses because of the tylonol in it. check out www.erowid.org Answered by Chana Newyear 1 year ago.

my friend is on the phone w. me and he just drank the big bottle of delsym but doesnt know when it will kick in? any help??
Asked by Ada Bolster 1 year ago.
Ive had some delsym hit me in like half an hour and some hit me in about 2. Its freakin a crazy uncordinated euphoric feeling with everything looking and feeling HD. Its pretty sweet. DXM is the main chemical in it you want. You can get that from nyquil, dayuil, robitussin, all kinds of crap. Oh and by the way dope is referring to speed, not anything in any relation to DXM, or any other drug for that matter. It may be a street term for drugs in general but its just speed. Everything has its street name. Im not gonna say what they are on here becuase i know some cops got it all encoded wrong haha! Tabs arent xanax tabs! Haha so dumb. Anyways, yea, theres nothing wrong with DXM, enjoy the trip. Youll know when it hit. PS: unfortunately it may give you the runs. I experience this only with DXM, and DXM farts are nearly deadly! contain them Answered by Chasity Ramone 1 year ago.
