Hi my doctor recently prescribed me "Clindamycin Phosphate Topical Lotion" in conjunction with antibiotics for my acne. (I'm highly skeptical it will work.) The directions on the bottle are extremely unclear, so my question is how do I use the "Clindamycin Phosphate Topical Lotion"? Is it to be used as a scrubbing face wash? Or do I apply it and leave it to dry after washing my face with water? Please keep in mind this is the lotion Clindamycin. Thanks for your help in advance. Answered by Wallace Bendzans 1 month ago.

The clindamycin phosphate topical lotion should be applied in a thin layer to your face and other affected areas 2x a day. You should wash your face first. If you are currently using cleansers that contain things like salicyclic acid, glycolic acid, or even benzoyl peroxide I would stop using them for awhile. The clindamycin lotion can be kind of drying and may cause redness and peeling at first, these ingredients will only irritate your skin further. I would use a gentle cleanser such as Cetaphil or even unscented Dove. (Target and other drugstores make a generic Cetaphil that's less expensive.) This product does work (I use it myself) but it may take up to two weeks to see the full results. Has your doctor ever suggested that you should also use a prescription retinoid such as Retin A or Tazorac? Retinoids do wonders for acne prone skin and keep you looking young. I'm 36, I've used retinoids for years and I have no lines or wrinkles and my skin looks years younger. Answered by Ermelinda Coho 1 month ago.

NATURAL ACNE PROTOCOL 1/ Never, ever touch your face. 2/ Use 3 facecloths to wash your face, one to soap on, one to soap off with very hot water, one to rinse off with ice cold water, in that order, once a day. 3/ If you are under 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A once a day with a full meal 4/ If you are over 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A twice a day with a full meal. Do not get pregnant while taking vitamin A. Do not take any more, like Accutane, it will stop you growing. 5/ Never, ever. pick, squeeze or pop your spot. Read number 1 again. 6/ Do this for 90 days. 7/ Invest in a brand new pillow and 2 new or more pillow cases to double bag' your pillow. HOT wash every couple of days. Source: A bit of advice given to me as a teenager, a bit of science as I am studying allergic reactions and vitamin A is a part of that. A bit of research: I sat in a lecture at the back and watched the acne prone pick at their faces, those with the worse acne touched their faces 32 times in an hour, the clearest complexions didn't touch their faces even once. I have circumstantial evidence that acne is the result of dermatophyte transfer from hands to face...where it does not get washed off and is well fed by hormones, sweat a nd oil...just a hypothesis... But it would explain why vitamin A is so effective as vitamin causes skin to remove dermatophytes. Clindamycin Phosphate and Benzoyl Peroxide(5%)?
My dermatologist prescribed me these two gels along with a Retin - A cream(Nighttime). . Which substance should I apply first (clindamycin or Benzoyl peroxide)? and .How much Benzoyl peroxide and clindamycin phosphate should I apply to my face? (Pea size? generous?) Asked by Marivel Destasio 1 month ago.

The clindamycin is a thinner, more watery, alcohol-based medication, so you should apply it first. Then, apply the benzoyl peroxide, which is a cream. If you apply a cream first, it the alcohol-based medication will just dissolve the cream. You should just apply enough of each so that a very thin layer is present on the skin. Using too much will only result in over-irritation and not increased results. You should NOT be using the Retin-A and benzoyl peroxide at the same time of day. Retinoids (like Retin-A) and benzoyl peroxide interfere with one another. So, you should only be using the benzoyl peroxide in the morning when you're not using the Retin-A. You can use the clindamycin both morning and night with each. You will want to apply an oil-free moisturizer before you apply the Retin-A at night; this will help to reduce the irritation, sensitivity, and redness that the Retin-A will cause as your skin adjusts to the medication. You must have a pretty oily complexion (as I do); these are all pretty drying medications, so be prepared for that. Good luck! Answered by Temeka Moryl 1 month ago.

The clindamycin and Benzoyl peroxide are 2 seperate gels? You might as about the combination called Benzoclin. that is what my daughter uses, and it takes the guess work out of what to apply first! Just a thought! Sorry I am not much more help. Answered by Dara Tenda 1 month ago.

Wow! why so many different things? I use clindamycin phosphate in morning & at bedtime. Thats all. Maybe you should check back with the doc. He may have you alternate between them. I have the worst complexion of anyone. I don't understand why you are using 3 different ones at the same time. Answered by Karyn Zoeller 1 month ago.

your derm should have given you some instructions when they prescribed them to you. I would put the bp on first, using only enough to cover the affected area. Good luck Answered by Howard Gitchell 1 month ago.

Answered by Cherelle Kuehne 1 month ago.

This is a topical cream that has an antibiotic in it to help cure your acne. Your doctor probably sees your acne as more serious than just need to keep clean. Perhaps a mild but secondary infection. With Acne if you have a secondary infection the pus from the acne or oils will spread and create a bigger problem. The antibiotics are going to make this go away. Apply a thin film of gel, solution, or lotion to the affected area 2 times a day. Yes, a barely there thin layer. The reason the assistant said to put this only on your back is that if you get this in your eyes it can be very painful. It is up to you. Follow those directions is probably the best bet. I will say I personally think if you are super careful and just put a dot on the acne of your forehead you should be okay. Do not rub this around your nose, eyes or mouth. Keep it light and only on the face area. Be careful it is strong but it works. Clindamycin Phosphate lotion can be absorbed through the skin and produce side effects in the body. The mild side effects are peeling at the area of the acne and redness. This is okay the medicine is working. But if you have stomach cramps or blood in the stool you need to tell your doctor right away. Don't eat this med!!! Keep it away from small children, animals and your own mouth. The BP Benxoyl Peroxide is much better for your face. Keep in mind this stuff can cause white stain spots on towels, clothing .. if it spills. BP is the old standby. And it can be found in any drug store without a prescription. The dose you have from your doctor might be higher. But the BP will not work with out the CPL. The CPL has a antibiotic that will cure the infections. Clearly your acne is part of an infection of this would not have been prescibed. This is all good stuff. Did your doc recommend anything else? I would say on a side note take vitamin Zinc, eat more yogurt and when you wash your face be very gentle. No scrubbing. And use a clean pillow case every night. If you have long hair around your face pull it back while you are at home. And your cell phone could use a cotton ball scrub with windex or mild rubbing alcohol to clean away and grime. Try not to touch your face when you are resting. And take baths every few days for the relaxation. This opens up your pores and helps your body to get the moisture it needs to help be healthy and keep acne away. Good luck and don't be afraid of the Clindamycin Phosphate Lotion. In a few weeks you will feel great. Answered by Concha Osumi 1 month ago.

On top of having acne and rosacea I also have very sensitive skin. I was wonder if any body knew of a regular, over the counter, everyday lotion that worked was like the one I got prescribed that I would still use after I finish with the one my doctor recommended? The one my doctor prescribed does not dry my skin and makes it really smooth and non oily. Cleocin T (clindamycin topical 1% lotion) is the brand name of what you currently take so you are already on the generic. Another brand name is Clinda-T, used in Canada. Clindamycin is an antibiotic and it is not available over the counter nor are related drugs. Almost all lotions over the counter do not have any medication however it is typically recommended that people use a non-comedogenic lotion like Cetaphil or CeraVe to reduce any irritation and dryness the clindamycin commonly causes. Benzoyl Peroxide is used to treat acne very commonly and it is available over the counter in 2.5% and 10% (sometimes 5% too) strengths. There is no need to use more than the 2.5% because larger amounts cause significantly more side effects and only little, if any, benefit. If your doctor is fine with it you can certainly use clindamycin topical for years, even for life as many people with acne and other skin problems do. So there is no limit on how long it can be used for. I would go back to your doctor and talk about extending the use of the clindamycin. If you don't already you can see a dermatologist if you want more options or if the acne gets worse. It is also highly recommended that Benzoyl Peroxide is used with a topical antibiotic like clindamycin because it is more effective and it greatly reduces bacterial resistance. In The US and Canada a medication called BenzaClin (clindamycin 1%/benzoyl peroxide 5%), is commonly used however it is much cheaper to get the generic clindamycin topical and use OTC Benzoyl Peroxide. Adapalene microspheres clindamycin phosphate gel usage?
i just bought myself a tube of adapalene microspheres clindamycin phosphate gel to cure my pimples. i dont have many. just 2 -3 odd ones. is this cream supposed to be left overnight or for sometime only. how do i use it? Asked by Tim Rhoden 1 month ago.

Your question is confusing because these are two separate medications and it doesnt even sound like you should be using them. You're supposed to be using them under the direction of a dermatologist. FYI, they will make you breakout worse--possibly for months--before it gets better (so if you dont have really have acne you are risking giving yourself more). Anyways, generally, you're supposed to apply a very thin layer of the the adapalene gel to the areas you usually breakout 20 minutes after you've washed your face every night, then about five minutes later you're supposed to apply the clindamycin and go to bed. You're supposed to wash your face in the AM as usual. Usually the clindamycin is used in the AM too but like i said, you don't even sound like you should be using either of these... They are NOT SPOT TREATMENTS, so simply applying them to individual zits like that will do nothing for you. The acne that's already on your face is basically a lost cause at this point; these medications are only for preventing NEW zits and that can take at least 28 days due to the fact that that's how long the typical skin cycle is. Adapalene And Clindamycin Answered by Arthur Abercrombie 1 month ago.

I've used both before, and i found benzyol peroxide gel worked better for me. I didn't seen an improvment with the other and it irritated my skin a little. I did however yield results after a few weeks, but benzoyl peroxide worked much faster and didn't irritate my skin as much. Answered by Francie Castilla 1 month ago.

I decided to do something horrible that I am fully regretting -- I shaved my bikini area. But now that it's growing back in there are horribly itchy razor bumps EVERYWHERE and it's so sensitive. I haven't scratched it AT ALL because I'm afraid of ingrown hairs (which I've already had to pick a few out (TMI, sorry!)) and making the rash-like condition worse. A few months ago I developed folliculitis on my legs and was given clindamycin phosphate topical gel 1% for it. The folliculitis (finally!) healed up and now I have a full tube of this stuff just lying around. I couldn't find the papers that went along with the prescription. And apparently nobody on the Internet knows anything, either. I'm a little iffy about applying anything I don't know inside and out to my girly-parts and am afraid this will make it worse. Anybody have any ideas? I've tried using my face cleanser and baby powder. Would non scented lotion (like Cetaphil) help at all? I shaved Wednesday and it's Saturday. My razor was a Schick Intuition: Aloe Vera. Thanks! Answered by Jo Mckoan 1 month ago.

No. Clindamycin is an antibioitic, which will fight bacterial infections. Razor burn is a mechanical irritation of the skin, not a bacterial infection. Clindamycin won't do anything for you. Baby powder is a bad idea. It is basically an abrasive powder, and that will make things worse. Face cleanser will just dry it out. Leave it alone or put on a gentle moisurizer. Don't use anything that is "renewing" or has any kind of acid in it. Answered by Curtis Wakeling 1 month ago.

Clindamycin Phosphate for acne?
What he gave me isn't a cream =\ It looks it comes in a dabber type thing and it comes out as a liquid so I have no idea - I might just stop using it like you suggested and try something different - but I don't want to break out more =( Asked by Azucena Winners 1 month ago.

First - I never had really bad acne, just occasional break outs that are bad, they last, then go away, then a month later will come back for a week or two and clear up... My doctor at first gave me a tube of differin it was like a lotion and this worked well, then I ran out and he changed it over to Clindamycin Phosphate because he said they didn't sell the lotion of differin anymore... At first it cleared my skin a bit then I broke out terribly, and my doctor said for the first month it gets worse, but then it'll clear up.. So I don't know if any of you have used this but if you have can you tell me what your review of it is? Or just in general what I can do for clear skin because recently I haven't wanted to go anywhere because I just feel so gross, and putting make up on makes me feel even worse because I never used to have to wear cover up.. help please :( Answered by Lawana Stewert 1 month ago.

I would stop using it regardless of what the doctor said. It sounds like you're having a reaction to the medicine. It is not normal for it "to get worse before it gets better" on the clindamycin phosphate cream (my son uses it). But it is possible for it to get worse due to an allergic reaction to the meds. You need to either try a different medication (insist with your doctor), or since you're not usually that bad anyway, try an over the counter cream. There are two different clindamycin creams -- one has an additional ingredient and one is plain clindamycin. Maybe you need the one that is just plain clindamycin if you're using the one with the added ingredient (benzol peroxide). Answered by Refugio Olivier 1 month ago.

Oh this is easy. This regimen can be very drying, though. MORNING 1) Cleanse your face with a gentle cleanser. 2) Apply Clindamycin Phosphate and Benzoyl Peroxide 3) Apply sunscreen lotion NIGHT 1) Cleanse 2) Apply Adapalene 0.1% and let it settles into your skin for 1 minute for so. 3) Apply Clindamycin Phosphate and Benzoyl Peroxide on top. 4) Apply lotion. Okay, for steps 2-3, you can do it this way: mix 1 part "adapalene" with 1 part "Clindamycin Phosphate and Benzoyl Peroxide", so like one pea-size amount of each prescriptions into your palm, blend with your fingertips, and apply. As I've said above, this regimen can be very drying, so you may want to actually apply lotion first, and then the prescriptions. If it gets too drying, you want to talk to your doctor if its OK to reduce the frequency of use to, say, every other day or third day. Answered by Broderick Morely 1 month ago.

I was prescribed Clindamycin Phosphate topical gel 1% as well, I have acne on my arms which to me is the worst thing, but I simply just put a small amount on them and rub it till it dries (like 10 seconds). I use my hands to rub it, just in case, wash your hands first then rub it all over your face. As far as I know, it is supposed to be rubbed on the area where the acne comes out or where it might come out. It'll probably get worst for the first or second week but usually after that it clears up the acne. I haven't broken out much but everyone is different. Answered by Jenette Siefker 1 month ago.
