Of the three drugs often found in over-the-counter antiseptic creams-polymyxin B, bacitracin, and neomycin-?
which has a mode of action most similar to that of penicillin? Asked by Bradly Jinright 4 months ago.

Bacitracin and penicillin are most similar in mode of action, since both disrupt the synthesis of the peptidoglycan layer of bacterial cell walls. Answered by Lucille Militante 4 months ago.

Triple Antibiotic Ointment?
Bacitracin Zinc Neomycin sulfate Polymyxin B sulfate Is there any Anti-fungle component here? Asked by Maris Cimmino 4 months ago.

NO....anti-bacterial only and normally for skin infections. Antifungals are things like Tinactin or al ot of other over the counter types for jock itch, female vaginal infections, yeast infections. Answered by Dung Gros 4 months ago.

anti - fungal. Like Fun Gal. NOT fungle - like jungle Think of a girl with no candidasis (jock itch - what's it called in a girl? Is it vaginismus?) is a FUN GAL. Then you'll spell it right every time. But no, there is no anti-fungal property in a regular triple antibiotic. That's why Neosporin just made Neosporin-AF-- An antifungal that works very well. Knocks off my jock itch after one application. I've only used it a few times, I don't need to use it after the first or second application. Answered by Mark Stoen 4 months ago.

Nope. You want a conazole to cover a fungus. Antifungals do that.. not antibiotics. Answered by Nina Frontiero 4 months ago.

No antifungal element. Answered by Rudolph Deupree 4 months ago.

Are any of these ingredients toxic: Bacitracin, Neomycin, and Polymyxin B? And do they evaporate?
I accidentally ate a little Neosporin (about the size that I put on my finger), and I looked at the label, and it said that Bacitracin, Neomycin, and Polymyxin B were the active ingredients in the substance. Will these harm me? Asked by Tari Magrath 4 months ago.

They're not meant to be eaten. But, in such tiny quantities, they won't hurt you. The Neosporin base, which is probably petrolatum or something similar, might be more of a problem. But you're still talking about a tiny quantity. Answered by Louisa Comerford 4 months ago.

So there's a homeless cat that started to take a liking to our porch. So we would leave food out for her, and she started to get fat. Sure enough she was pregnant. When she went into labor she nearly broke my front door down trying to come in (& I have 5 big dogs). Long story short, I have her & her babies in a huge (& safe) dog cage in a kitchenette we have that's blocked off. The mom got a nasty eye infection & my dogs vet gave me Neomycin, Polymyxin B, Bacitracin Ophthalmic Ointment for her which cleared it up right away, but now it seems one of her 4 week old kittens has it now. Can I use the same stuff in the kittens eye? Maybe watered down? I love animals but have no intention of keeping these cats. I can't. It's not fair to the humans in the house, the dogs or the cats. Im just providing temporary "housing" until they are old enough to find them new homes. That being said, I can't afford taking animals that are not even mine to the vet. Everytime I check on them I do wipe the kittens eye with a cotton ball & some warm water to get the gunk out but it's not clearing up. Any suggestions on how to clear the kittens eye up would be helpful. Answered by Danyelle Cerruti 4 months ago.

Yes, you can use they eye ointment on the kittens. Do NOT dilute it. Just a little "ribbon" in the effected eye. Also, keep the eyes clean by gently wiping them with a warm moist cotton ball. Clean ball for each eye so you don't spread the infection. Answered by Lon Earehart 4 months ago.

What is the difference between Neosporin and Bacitracin?
My doctor wrote me a prescription for about 12 tubes of Bacitracin to care for a skin graft. I was just wondering what the difference is. Asked by Alayna Pettijohn 4 months ago.

Neosporin has Bacitracin and two other antibiotics, Polymyxin B and Neomycin Sulfate. Each one is in a different family of antibiotics. Bacitracin is only effective against gram positive bacteria. It is better to use specific antibiotics according to each situation to lessen resistance to them. Answered by Nancee Swire 4 months ago.

Triple Antibiotic Cream for burn?
Hey guys, does triple antibiotic cream with bacitracin zinc, neomycin sulfate, and polymyxin b sulfate help for a big curling iron burn? Thank you to all of you! Asked by Kristen Unglesbee 4 months ago.

If it is a non-water soluble cream I would no use it. I would use Burn Gel or the like. Burn gel is a product name it has Aloe Vera, Tea Tree oil and this is the good part LIDOCAINE a very good pain killer. It is water soluble and it is not greasy so it won't be hard to clean off and won't stain your cloths and it kills the pain. I have quit using anything else. FYI if you get a burn always use cold or cool water never ice. If it is not bigger than say 2"x 2" and is not a third degree burn (black or dark brown) you can treat it yourself (the face is an exception to this). If it is a third degree burn of any size you should see a doctor and if you don't have burn gel to make a temporary bandage you can use non medicated shaving cream. It washes off and will cover the wound to prevent fluid loss and infections. Also the shaving cream is cool. Believe me avoid bandages that stick or greasy stuff because it will be very likely that the doctors will have to scrub it off which as you can imagine will hurt unless the burn has gone deep. Triple antibiotic ointment is a topical solution containing three antibiotics — bacitracin, neomycin, and polymyxin B sulfates — that is used to prevent infection and heal wounds. The combination of antibiotics works to kill bacteria on the surface of the skin, keeping open wounds free of germs that could cause infection. The ointment is sold as a gel or as an antibiotic cream. The trio of antibiotics that work together in this ointment kill germs by weakening their cellular walls. They also slow down the protein synthesis process in the bacteria. Both factors cause bacteria cells to die off, which helps keep a wound clean and stave off infection. Triple antibiotic ointment is designed to be used for minor injuries. It is meant to be applied to small nicks, scrapes, and cuts and is not intended for use on severe burns, deep wounds, or animal bites. People who are allergic to any of the three antibiotics should avoid this ointment. Generally, a patient will wash the affected area with soap and water and dry it thoroughly before reapplying the ointment. The wound is often covered with a bandage to add another layer of protection to the sensitive area. The ointment should not be used for more than one week as bacteria get resistance to its antibiotic property. Answered by Shavonne Ebling 4 months ago.

How does neosporin work?
How does neosporin work? And why would it be faster to heal with it? Asked by Rosetta Orines 4 months ago.

Neosporin contains three different antibiotics: bacitracin, neomycin, and polymyxin B. They all target specific bacteria that can cause infection and therefore make it harder for your body to heal a cut. If the cut is not infected with bacteria, it heals faster, and scars less as the tissue is not damaged by the bacterial infection. Answered by Roberto Gertel 4 months ago.

well neosporin keeps your wound moist and when it is moist, your skin will heal easier and quicker leaving almost no scar. thats basically what it does. Answered by Deane Mantuano 4 months ago.
