What is the medicine?
anexsia Asked by Milda Alford 6 months ago.

Here is from www.anexsia.com Brand Name: Anexsia Chemical Name: HYDROCODONE and ACETAMINOPHEN This medicine is a combination of a narcotic and acetaminophen used to relieve moderate to severe pain. Narcotic pain-relievers work by binding to opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord, and acetaminophen decreases the formation of prostaglandins, therefore reducing pain. This medicine may also be used to treat other conditions (e.g., cough) as determined by your doctor. Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take this medicine by mouth. THIS MEDICINE MAY BE TAKEN WITH FOOD if it upsets your stomach, although doing so may decrease its effectiveness. Consult your doctor or pharmacist about alternatives for decreasing nausea (e.g., antihistamines, lying down for 1-2 hours with minimal head movement). STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE and you are taking it regularly, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU HAVE HAD A SEVERE ALLERGIC REACTION to codeine, hydrocodone, dihydrocodeine, or oxycodone. A severe allergic reaction includes a severe rash, hives, breathing difficulties, or dizziness. If you have a question about whether you are allergic to this medicine or if a certain medicine contains codeine, hydrocodone, dihydrocodeine, or oxycodone, contact your doctor or pharmacist. Monitor your pain as directed by your doctor. If pain is left untreated and becomes intense, this medicine may not work as well to relieve it. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE, take this medicine more often, or for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor. Exceeding the recommended dose or taking this medicine for longer than prescribed may be habit-forming. If using this medicine for an extended period of time, DO NOT SUDDENLY STOP taking this medicine without your doctor's approval. When using for an extended period, this medicine may not work as well and may require different dosing. Talk with your doctor if this medicine stops working well. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE drowsiness or dizziness. Using this medicine alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. AVOID ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES while taking this medicine. To minimize dizziness or lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from a seated or lying position. This medicine may cause constipation. To prevent constipation, maintain a diet adequate in fiber, drink plenty of water, and exercise. If you become constipated while using this medicine talk with your doctor or pharmacist. This medicine contains acetaminophen. Adults should not take more than a total of 4 grams of acetaminophen per day (3 grams per day if you have liver disease). Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more information. Acetaminophen may cause liver damage. If you drink alcohol on a daily basis, do not take this medicine without first discussing it with your doctor. Alcohol use combined with acetaminophen may increase your risk for liver damage (symptoms include yellowing eyes or skin, stomach pain, dark urine). BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. This includes other pain relievers, cough-and-cold medicines, or allergy medicines. These medicines may contain additional acetaminophen. Taking too much acetaminophen can be harmful. Ask your pharmacist about the safe use of these products. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING THIS MEDICINE IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine, especially the possible decreased breathing and drowsiness effects. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor to discuss the risks to your baby. Answered by Myrl Dines 6 months ago.

Can anexsia be prescriped if it helps patient with eating disorder?
my good friend has an eating disorder. She was prescribed Anexsia for another physical pain. She said since being on the medication, she no longer has the urge to purge, or binge and feels totally normal again, and eats normal! Could this become a treatment for the eating disorder she has had for 7 years? Asked by Sherrie Plueger 6 months ago.

No. This medication is a combination of hydrocodone and acetaminophen which is a narcotic used for pain. It is very habit forming so she would be trading one problem for another. It would not be a healthy or beneficial solution. She really needs counseling to deal with her eating disorder whic would be far more wise than forming an addiction to a pain killer! My dr. proscribed Anexsia and I am 18 weeks pg, I am afraid to take it, how safe is it?
Asked by Camelia Cos 6 months ago.

That is hydrocodone and is listed as Class B in pregnancy, meaning it is safe. Your doc would not have prescribed it if it weren't safe. Answered by Elanor Joris 6 months ago.

Was it your MD doctor, or your OB doctor. Usually if you go to your regular doctor and they need to prescribe something, they will check with your OB first or even refuse to treat you and send you to your OB. If your OB prescibes it or ok's it, then you should be fine. I would research a little about the medicine and weigh the pros and cons of taking/not taking it. I don't know exactly what this medicine is for, but maybe there are some alternative things you can do for your symptoms that don't include taking a medicine. P.S. I'm sorry this is not answering the question, but why give a thumbs down to the people who opinionate that she should be cautious? She has to think about her baby's well being, and if a medicine has a warning on it for pregnant woman, I would think twice as well. Answered by Rebeca Winthrop 6 months ago.

It is safe to take while pregnant, do not take while breastfeeding. Anexsia is a tylenol based drug. Answered by Roy Parisien 6 months ago.

From reading the below I would think it is safe, just don't take while breastfeeding. If your doctor knows you are pregnant he/she wouldn't have given it to you if you couldn't take it. Other medications....does it work the same? Are they all prescription only?
Anexsia, Anolor DH5, Bancap HC, Dolacet, Hydro, Lorcet, Lortab, Norco, T - Gesic, Vadunk are they the same effect as vicodin? Are they all prescription medication? Do they work for tattoos in numbing the skin? :\ Asked by Lura Hafner 6 months ago.

they're all prescription meds. if you are afraid of the pain from a tat -don't get one. Answered by Savannah Grahams 6 months ago.

If you're just numbing the skin, then you should use a local topical anesthetic like EMLA cream (which yes, requires a prescription). No good doctor would ever prescribe Vicodin for a tattoo, and of your list that's the only one I've ever heard of. If it's that serious, don't get one. Answered by Kimberly Seibt 6 months ago.

None of those numb the skin. Yes, they require a prescription, and you're certainly not going to get one for a tattoo. Drugs that numb the skin topically also change the consistency of the skin (EMLA, for example). There's a good chance that would mess up your tat. If you want a tattoo, you have to deal with being stuck with tiny needles hundreds and hundreds of times. That's what it takes. Answered by Polly Galdames 6 months ago.

You can take 3 Advil or Aleve. Can you put ice pack on tattoo after it's done? Answered by Aleida Abend 6 months ago.

What is the difference between Hydrocodone and Oxycodone?
Are they different mechanisms? Can they be taken together, possibly alternating from one to the other every six hours? Asked by Briana Mundy 6 months ago.

Hydrocodone: Hydrocodone or dihydrocodeinone (marketed as Vicodin, Anexsia, Dicodid, Hycodan, Hycomine, Lorcet, Lortab, Norco, Hydroco, Tussionex, Vicoprofen) is an opioid derived from either of the naturally occurring opiates codeine or thebaine. Hydrocodone is an orally active narcotic analgesic and antitussive. Sales and production of this drug have increased significantly in recent years, as have diversion and illicit use. Hydrocodone is commonly available in tablet, capsule and syrup form. As a narcotic, hydrocodone relieves pain by binding to opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord. It may be taken with or without food. When taken with alcohol, it can intensify drowsiness. It may interact with monoamine oxidase inhibitors, as well as other drugs that cause drowsiness. It is in FDA pregnancy category C: its effect on an embryo or fetus is not clearly known and pregnant women should consult their physicians before taking it. Common side effects include dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, drowsiness, euphoria, vomiting, and constipation. Some less common side effects are allergic reaction, blood disorders, changes in mood, mental fogginess, anxiety, lethargy, difficulty urinating, spasm of the ureter, irregular or depressed respiration and rash. Hydrocodone can be habit-forming , and can lead to physical and psychological addiction. In the U.S., pure hydrocodone and forms containing more than 15 mg per dosage unit are considered Schedule II drugs. Those containing less than or equal to 15 mg per dosage unit in combination with acetaminophen or another non-controlled drug are called Hydrocodone Compounds and are considered Schedule III drugs. Hydrocodone is typically found in combination with other drugs such as paracetamol (acetaminophen), aspirin, ibuprofen and homatropine methylbromide. The purpose of the non-controlled drugs in combination is often twofold. 1) To provide increased analgesia via drug synergy. 2) To limit the intake of hydrocodone by causing unpleasant and often unsafe side effects at higher than prescribed doses (See Below). In the UK it is listed as a Class A drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. Oxycodone: Oxycodone is a very powerful and addictive opioid analgesic medication synthesized from thebaine. It is effective orally and is marketed in combination with aspirin (Percodan, Endodan, Roxiprin) or paracetamol (Percocet, Endocet, Roxicet, Tylox) for the relief of pain. More recently, ibuprofen has been added to oxycodone (Combunox). It is also sold in a sustained-release form by Purdue Pharma under the trade name OxyContin as well as generic equivalents, and instant-release forms Endone, OxyIR, OxyNorm, Percolone, OxyFAST, and Roxicodone. Roxicodone is available in 5, 15, and 30 mg tablets. OxyContin is available in 10, 20, 40, and 80 mg tablets, and, due to its sustained-release mechanism, is effective for eight to twelve hours. (The 160 mg formulation was discontinued in May 2001.) OxyNorm is available in 5, 10, and 20 mg capsules and tablets; also as a 1 mg/1 ml liquid in 250 mg bottles and as a 10 mg/1 ml concentrated liquid in 100 mg bottles. In the United States, oxycodone is a Schedule II controlled substance both as a single agent and in combination products containing paracetamol, ibuprofen or aspirin. Good Luck. Answered by Sixta Kretsinger 6 months ago.

OxyContin (oxycodone HCI controlled-release) is the brand name for an opioid analgesic (pain reliever) -- a narcotic. It is available by prescription only and is used to treat moderate to severe pain when around-the-clock analgesic is needed for an extended period of time. What does it look like? OxyContin is available in tablet form in 5 doses: 10, 20, 40, 80, and 160mg. (However, the manufacturer is no longer shipping 160mg). How is it used? As pain medication, OxyContin is taken every 12 hours because the tablets contain a controlled, time-release formulation of the medication. Most pain medications must be taken every three to six hours. Oxycontin abusers remove the sustained-release coating to get a rapid release of the medication, causing a rush of euphoria similar to heroin. What are its short-term effects? The most serious risk associated with opioids, including OxyContin, is respiratory depression. Common opioid side effects are constipation, nausea, sedation, dizziness, vomiting, headache, dry mouth, sweating, and weakness. Taking a large single dose of an opioid could cause severe respiratory depression that can lead to death. What are its long-term effects? Chronic use of opioids can result in tolerance for the drugs, which means that users must take higher doses to achieve the same initial effects. Long-term use also can lead to physical dependence and addiction -- the body adapts to the presence of the drug, and withdrawal symptoms occur if use is reduced or stopped.Properly managed medical use of pain relievers is safe and rarely causes clinical addiction, defined as compulsive, often uncontrollable use of drugs. Taken exactly as prescribed, opioids can be used to manage pain effectively. Hydrocodone Hydrocodone is an effective antitussive (anti-cough) agent, and as an opiate it is also an effective analgesic for mild to moderate pain control. Five mg of hydrocodone is equivalent to 30 mg of codeine when administered orally. Early comparisons concluded that hydrocodone and morphine were equipotent for pain control in humans. However, it is now considered that a dose of 15 mg (1/4 gr) of hydrocodone is equivalent to 10 mg (1/6 gr) of morphine. Hydrocodone is considered to be morphine-like in all respects. There are over 200 products containing hydrocodone in the U.S. In its most usual product forms hydrocodone is combined with acetaminophen (Vicodin, Lortab), but it is also combined with aspirin (Lortab ASA), ibuprofen (Vicoprofen), and antihistamines (Hycomine). Both tablet and liquid forms of hydrocodone are available (e.g., Tussionex) Hydrocodone is in Schedule II of the Controlled Substances Act. Preparations containing hydrocodone in combination with other non-narcotic medicinal ingredients are in Schedule III. Vicodin, hydrocodone in combination with acetaminophen, is a commonly abused version of hydrocodone. Vicodin, as with all narcotic analgesics, can be habit forming---causing dependence, tolerance, and withdrawal symptoms if not used as it is prescribed. i would not recomend to be taken both in the same time ,but ask your doc about your specific indications and use advice Answered by Clyde Varos 6 months ago.
