Are 1,250 mg of Ammonium Chloride and 570 mg of Sodium Citrate dangerous?
I usually robotrip using a certain product (whose only active ingredient is DXM) that ran out at the local store. Instead I bought another cough syrup that in each 5 mg has:
diphenydramine HCL (12.5 mg)
DXM HBR (15 mg)
pseudoephedrine hcl (30 mg)
ammonium chloride (125 mg)
sodium citrate (57 mg)
menthol (1 mg)

I'd usually take it so I'd get about 150 mg of DXM, but that means I'd get 1,250 mg of sodium citrate and 570 mg of sodium citrate, which I've never dealt with before. Would those 2 get me really sick.. and not be worth taking?
Ammonium Chloride is used as an expectorant, and the LD50 (lethal dose for 50% of the population) is 1650mg/kg. So unless you weigh under 1.5 pounds, you should be OK with 1250 mg.

There are three "sodium citrates," but trisodium citrate is the one usually meant when using the term.
Taken orally, it's used as an antacid. It is also used as tart-tasting food additive, including in some Ocean Spray juices.
It's generally considered harmless, unless you do something like eat a brick of it.
Beware, starsnatcher, if you are not already ill or dead. Check your math. If you consume 10 doses, simply add a zero on the end of each ingredient. If the LD50, that is the average lethal dose, of Ammonium Chloride is 1650mg and you take 1250mg.. you risk death every time you robotrip. Are you feeling healthy today? I wonder what would make anybody intelligent enough to figure this out want to do this more than once? Maybe you could use your smarts to be a doctor.
Can having too much sodium chloride therapy cause hypokalemia?
I become severely dehydrated on a daily basis due to other issues. but I have so far found a link that i only get hypokalemia when i'm on steriods or sodium chloride...
Is this theory accurate, or is it just coincidence?

Sounds really weird, but I have heard urine helps with the burn, you might search to see if that is true or not
How much potassium chloride is appropriate?
My mom is in the ICU after a small brain aneurysm. She is doing alright but she is getting 200 ml/hr of 1.3% potassium chloride in .9% sodium chloride solution. Is this the proper dose for a 50 year old female weighing approx 92 Kg?
Thanks! The Dr. also confirmed this when I finally got to speak to him.
Yes, "... Usual dose - Infusion: 40 mEq/Litre of IV solution administered at a rate to deliver 40-200 mEq potassium/day ..."

It is in the normal range, but you left off one important piece of information and no medical individual will be able to answer your question unless you give the blood potassium level.

The medication is right on target ...
Can you safely take IV Fluids (Sodium Chloride) orally?
Can you take IV Fluids (Sodium Chloride) straight from the bag orally without any health risks?
Just wanted to know as a survival technique when you have no water left but IV bags are available
Rite Aid saline solution for cleaning piercing?
I just got my ear pierced again today after the hole closed up and I no longer have any of that ear care antiseptic from Claire's (which I heard isn't that great anyways). I just wanted to know if the saline solution I got from Rite Aid is good for cleaning my piercing. I thought it would just be salt and water but in the contents section, it says: A sterile, isotonic, buffered solution that contains boric acid, sodium borate, potassium chloride, sodium chloride, preserved with polyaminopropyl (0.00003%) and edetate disodium (0.025%).

I was just wondering if all those extra things besides sodium chloride is good to use on my ear or if I should return it.

I also have some bactine spray but I heard not to use that either.

Use coarse sea salt and warm water. ( I have my ears, my navel and my eyebrow pierced )
This is best to use. Dissolve about 2 teaspoons in a coffee mug of warm to hot water. Dip a cotton ball in the water and clean the back and front of the piercing. The best way to do this ( after the piercing heals ) is to take the earring out and clean both back and front and the post before putting it back in. And this is all you need

2 teaspoons coarse sea salt
Coffee mug of warm or hot water
Cotton balls or Q-Tips

According to Wikipedia, you need a total of 2,000 milligrams of potassium and 2,400 grams of sodium a day. Do the math, find out how much you need.

What type of sodium (i.e. sodium acetate, sodium chloride, etc) is used in IVs in hospitals?
Is there any colonoscopy prep one can take without taking Bisacodyl tablets?
Looking for a colonoscopy prep without having to take Bisycodyl Tablets. Also without the polyethylene glycole, sodium bicaronate,
sodium chloride, polyethylene glycol 3350, and potassium chloride, as I can't tolerate them. :-(
Thanks for the prompt responses...I'm seeing my gastro doc next week and will inquire about these alternatives!
Fleet Phosho Soda (or generic) the active ingredients are Monobasic Sodium Phosphate Monohydrate, 7.2 g and Dibasic Sodium Phosphate Heptahydrate, 2.7 g

It is a 1.5 oz bottle and you take 2 doses 4 to 5 hours apart. The instructions call for it to be mixed in an 8 oz clear beverage. It is real salty so I have tried it with margarita mix and chugged it. I usually immediately follow it with Gatorade ot PowerAde so as to not deplete my electrolytes. I have also chugged the bottle straight (like a shot) and then chased it with a clear flavored liquid.

There is a warning if you already have heart disease or kidney failure. DO NOT cheat on the clear diet or beverages because it works by drawing water to your intestines. Remember to drink lots of clear liquid, eat Jell-O and stay close to the commode. If you consume the clear diet you will be fine.

Everyone I know says this is the least disgusting of the preps.

accidentally drank dristan nasal spray?
i was goofing around with my friend and he sprayed me in the mouth with dristan nasal spray and i swallowed a fair amount. the med ingredients are Phenylephrine HCl , Pheniramine Maleate and the non-medical ingredients are alcohol, benzalkonium chloride, cellulose, eucalyptol, menthol, purified water, sodium chloride, sodium phosphate and thimerosal.

What should i do? i feel fine
alright, so your nasal and you throat are connected. have you ever noticed that when you have a stuffy nose and you breathe in, you can feel yourself swallowing it? swallowing something that's taking the same path from a different starting point wont do anything to you. hope i've helped. lets hope this doesn't happen again with something dangerous. good luck =]

What are the reasons of reduction of sodium chloride and potassium contents in the blood?
I want to know the reasons for reduction of sodium chloride and potassium in the blood. What are the signs and symptoms of such reduction? What damage does it do to the body? How to maintain the optimum level of the two contents?
usually the main reason for reducing sodium chloride levels (or just sodium) in the blood is to lower your blood pressure. lowering of potassium levels is not usually seen unless you've had lab tests to show you have high potassium..and that doesn't usually happen normally.

lowering sodium levels too much is almost never a problem in north america because our diet has so much salt in it. we intake on average 7 times more salt than we actually need in a day. but if you do have low sodium you might get low blood pressure (dizziness, fainting, especially when standing up from a sitting position)

lowering potassium levels is really dangerous and that's why it doesnt usually happen unless you're on drugs. it will cause you to feel lethargic and will slow your heart rate down. having too low potassium in an EXTREME case will cause your muscles to freeze up and you wont be able to move them, including your heart muscles and your lung muscles = you'll probably die

your body will usually maintain both sodium and potassium levels fine. just watch out for excess sodium in your diet (less salt) and if you're on any drugs then talk to your pharmacist
Will Eating Sodium Nitrite Harm The Human Body?
Just curious will eating grams of sodium nitrite (the chemicals used for perservatives for foods) lethal to human beings? No confusion to sodium chloride (table salt) but what will happen if a human being ingests sodium nitrite beyond the set 2gram lethal dose limit ?
The amount of sodium nitrite preservative in food is very small so it would be very unlikely that you would ever reach the 2 gm lethal dosage.

To reach that lethal level you would probably have to eat a few buckets of sodium nitrite preservative containing foods and you would probably die from over eating.

what solution works best for recovering undistorted prtozoan cysts and nematode larvae from fecal samples?
need it for my college test............heres the choices i have
glucose, sodium chloride, sodium sulfate, zinc sulfate
I am just guessing here, but here's the logic: need sodium chloride to make sure there is an osmotic balance in the solution and the organism; and glucose to increase the density of the solution so the organisms float to the top. I have no idea if this is correct.
brand name of aminophylline?
can any1 tell me brand names of medicine which has an active ingredient called aminophylline. name all brand names that you know. i have read that it can be apply topically to lose fat in a particular area

What is in saliva cleanser?
I have never heard of drug testing with a mouth swab, but they have a mouthwash that forces a negative on the test. What is it in the wash that is the "active" ingredient? These are in order what is in it

water, glycerin, magnsium sulfate, potassium chloride, sodium chloride, witch hazel, aloe vera, boron citrate, lithium sulfate, peppermint(for taste!), sodium benzoate, and potassium sorbate

I get witch hazel and aloe and what not, but what do the other chemicals do? How does it produce a film or whatever? Why are there little thingys floating in it?
Please answer with intelligent answers, if you dont know, join the club dont tell me about it. And if you dont do drugs good for you, keep your opinions to yourself.

Can habitually consuming sodium chlorite (not sodium chloride) cause high blood pressure?
My dad has high blood pressure. A friend is giving him a sodium chlorite solution to drink every day. What exactly is this doing to him?
It contains chlorine dioxide, which is made from the oxidation of Sodium Chlorite. Chlorine dioxide is used primarily for bleaching of wood pulp, but is also used for the bleaching of flour and for the disinfection of municipal drinking water. Chlorine dioxide has never been studied for ANY medical condition including high blood pressure. There is absolutely NO evidence it improves blood pressure. There have been short term studies of Chlorine dioxide for water disinfection. The studies were only for weeks to months. No significant adverse effects were noted, but the long term effects are unknown. The use of chlorine dioxide as a supplement has never been studied and its safety at the doses used are unknown. The developer of MMS has absolutely no training in medicine. I would suggest your dad stop this and get evaluated by a doctor ASAP for his blood pressure and dizziness.
is there a Sodium Chloride drug that is incorporated into Intravenous Fluids?
Thats what usually is in the fluids that they give you in an IV to keep you hydrated.

Explain the need for our diet to contain: carbohydrates; sodium chloride; fresh fruits and milk?
carbohydrates are classified as 'go' food. it gives us the energy to be able to endure the day's work.
sodium chloride, salt... probably... it is just needed to maintain the pH of our stomach. too acidic or too basic is not good
fresh fruits and milk - these are classified as 'glow' food it gives you the right color of your skin... milk has all the vitamins you need except vit.c. so you also need to eat fruits to have a doze of vit. c

Magnesium Chloride Deicer vs Supplement?
what's the difference?

I have this stuff at my house called "FreezGard 100% Magnesium Chloride Ice Melt" ( 3rd one from the bottom) at my house. It says it's 100% Magnesium Chloride.

I noticed Magnesium Chloride is also sold in supplement form (

I was wondering if its safe to take the deicer in small dosages to replace the dietary supplement. it sounds wrong, but just curious.
Here's some more facts.
Taking any single element supplement is not a good idea under any circumstances, unless it is for a well supervised therapeutic reason by a practitioner. Nature does not package nutrients as individual nutrients for a very good reason. There is always interaction that is required for nutrients to be utilized properly by the body. Magnesium and Calcium are absorbed by the body in the jejunum and only when the pH of the chyme from the stomach is low enough. Which ever of these nutrients is required for the body, it decides how much it needs and absorbs that only. If you take one or the other of these, out of balance, you can create deficiencies.

Balance is the key to health in the body. Chemically made nutrients are toxic to the body and generally rejected, while also damaging the DNA of your cells. Quantum physics experiments have shown us how this happens and that the body has an incredible sensory ability to determine nutrients from toxins.

Good luck to you

Can contact lens solution be used for any other purpose?
I have a contact lens solution....and i have no use for it...can it be use for any cleaning or some other purpose do it doesn't go waste?.....The solution contains...."A sterile, aqueous, isotonic solution containing Sodium & Potassium Chloride, Disodium Edetate & ASTEK 4 which combines Polyhexanide, Poloxamer, Hypromellose and Sodium Phosphate buffer."
The only household use I've been able to find for it was to clean my electric razor; it's a little thicker than water, so it seemed to make it run a little smoother the next time I shaved. Beyond that, it's pretty much only good for cleaning contacts or rinsing your eyes. The above suggestion of giving it to someone else is probably the best, assuming it's unopened.
I just ate this! What is best antidote? Did not look at list of ingredients first....?

I was really hungry and it was all in a pizza which tasted AWFUL,
I will never buy it again.

What are my prospects, what would you recommend?

It was a big pizza and I ate the whole thing. I was thinking how lousy it was compared to others I have used before....

AND THEN I read the list of ingredients (too late).

Help please, your recommendation?
reduced iron
and calcium chloride too
and "flavoring" not otherwise described
some natural stuff came with all of this
Ursus Particularies
chill cuz it ain't going to kill you. and just don't buy that brand anymore.
Do any of the ingredients in this contain gluten?
Water, milk protein concentrate, sunflower oil, soy protein isolate, coffee, natural and artificial flavors, cellulose gel, magnesium phosphate, calcium phosphate, potassium citrate, sodium hexametaphosphate, cellulose gum, sucralose, carrageenan, vitamin mineral mix (zinc gluconate, ferric orthophosphate, d-alpha-tocophero; acetate, niacinamide, manganese gluconate, maltodextrine, d-calcium pntothenate, beta carotene, pyridoxine hydrochloride, thiamine hydrochloride, riboflavin, chromium chloride, folic acid, biotin, potassium iodide, sodium molybdate, sodium selenite, vitamin K-1 and cyanocobalamin), salt, acesulfame potassium, sodium ascorbate.
the natural and artificial flavors and the maltodextrin are both questionable. whatever the item is i would look it up on google and see if anyone on or something has posted about it. just type in _______________ gluten free and usually something will come up for it. until you know for sure i would stay away from it because its iffy.
hope this helps!
God bless XD
Where can I buy Lactated Ringers 1000ml or Sodium Chloride USP.9% 1000ml without a prescription?

thankyou for your time
